Recording: Diagnosing Pronunciation with Donna Brinton
Here's the recording of today's session with Donna Brinton. We thank Donna for her time and expertise. What were your takeaways from the session? I know I have quite a few and can't wait to get them all together. And if you're interested in building a pronunciation course for your business, join @Leonardo Gomes and me next week as we're hosting a live stream on that. Reserve your free spot here. We're excited to say that we're interviewing Robin Walker and Gemma Archer next week for our podcast to talk more about pronunciation. They have a new book called "Teaching English Pronunciation for a Global World" - so stay tuned for that! Here's the link to the article on nativeness vs intelligibility as well.

Actually, what interests me most is pronunciation and decoding. I believe that working on pron can significantly help our students improve their listening skills.

@Andrew Woodbury On other's and their own. Actually, I don't think I could sell any course promising anything other than working on some aspects of pronunciation --all my stds are Spanish speakers-- and how this will help them understand spoken English and encourage them to use what they learn when speaking.
Webinar Preview: Diagnosing Pronunciation
We're hosting Donna Brinton on Wednesday for a webinar on teaching pronunciation. Are you able to make it? You can see the registration link on the Calendar here in TSN - we hope to see you there. As a preview and lead up to that talk, we're happy to share here a handout on the 5-part Communicative Framework and a guide to understanding language barriers in English pronunciation. @Leonardo Gomes put this together and added some reflections from his trip to Brazil. Before getting into the framework, we ask three questions: Question 1: Have you ever experienced a language barrier due to pronunciation differences? Share a specific instance where a mispronunciation led to a humorous or confusing situation. Question 2: For non-native English speakers: What English sound or word do you find most challenging to pronounce, and why? For native speakers: Which sound or word have you noticed non-native speakers often struggle with? Question 3: What do you think is the biggest challenge in learning English pronunciation? You can add your thoughts below to get the conversation started before the webinar. Looking forward to the session on Wednesday.

Hi! I'm quite confused about the time of the webinar tomorrow. I got an email saying that's at 1.00 pm, Toronto time, which is 11.00 am here in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I am. Today I got a new email saying that's at 3.00 pm Buenos Aires time, and if that's the case, I can't attend. ☹️ Do you mind clarifying? Thanks!!

Thanks, the second email I got was right. It's at 3.00 pm, Bs As time. Then, I won't be able to make it. Sorry!
Suggestion Box
I'm quite new to Teacherpreneur Support Network so I'm still getting the knack of it. I was wondering if we could suggest some topics of interest and exploration. Some of my own are: -Systematization: keeping it simple for both teachers and students so accessing notes can be easily done to, for instance, recycle lexis. -Free or low-cost resources: living in a country that's unfortunately in the middle of an economic crisis makes it sometimes quite hard to pay for some apps, such as ChatGPT, or even impossible because there's no access to it, like AI Chat on Quizlet. -Integrating Lexical Approach, TBLT and decoding (listening) -Making Headway in 1-hour per week 1:1 courses. Thanks in advance!

@Michael Landry Hi! Thank you! I'm an EFL Teacher working full time with adults in Argentina. Currently all my classes are online, most of them 1-hour-a-week 1:1 classes but I'm still struggling with, for instance, finding an easy, eye-catching way of systematizing lexis and lexicalized grammar we see during class so my student --and myself, of course-- has easy access and can use it to review. I'm currently using a Google Doc I call "Whiteboard" an share it with my students but I find it rather limiting.

@Elisa Galbusera @Sandra Armstrong Thank you! I've tried Google Slides but I guess Google Sheets might be a better option for what I have in mind. Thanks again and Happy Holidays!!
Hiya!
Hi, Everyone! Celia Puga here from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I've been teaching English to adults for many years now and this year I decided to do a postgraduate course at a local university to hone my teaching skills. Over these last few months we've been working on addressing emergent language, decoding, lexical and TBL approaches as well as using some agility principles to improve the quality of our sessions. So when a classmate suggested joining a Zoom meeting on Listening done by LYE some time ago, I started following you and love the work you've done, your podcasts, and lectures. Currently, I'm more focused on moving away from textbooks rather than getting more clients. And I hope to share ideas that could be valuable to all of us. Thanks a bunch!
