Post Production/Pre-Mastering Our MIDI Mockups
Dear fellow composers, how do you finalise your Music in terms of Pre-Mastering? For instance, if I listen to the film scores even from Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P78aLrjqFo&list=RD4P78aLrjqFo&index=1), the Basses, Cellos and all the low range instruments are really well compressed and deep. From my studio monitors I can hear the difference when I use the sample libraries. I know that recording the live orchestra makes a big difference, but I also know that it is possible to achieve a really good result even on demos, because I had the chance to attend some masterclass with Conrad Pope and Richard Bellis in Dublin few years ago, where they played their MIDI Mockups for explaining some Film Music Scoring process and the result was stunning in terms of sound. They demos sounded like a live orchestra recorded in the Studios. I never asked this information to them unfortunately, I should have had. Do you apply Multiband Compressors on the Stereo Out or on the single channel strips? Or both? What is the trick there? I know that Pre-Mastering is an Art which takes years of work/study/experience, thus it is better to leave this part to the experts; but maybe with this post, we may gather some good suggestions.

Thank you @Aleksandria Migova. I will try it too. It is important to learn this part of the process as well.

@Wayne Liesching Yes, I am using Logic Pro, but also Cubase. It depends on the project. I also have Digital Performer, but I stopped upgrading it, because the upgrades became too dear and I preferred to stick on Cubase and Logic. I think that DAWs choices are personal. For instance, I started with Logic 9, but one year later I was in a middle of a project and I realised that I could not work with the Orchestra Template on my MacBook Pro which was 8GB RAM (the highest configuration I could invest in). Mac Pros production was stopped because Apple had to upgrade the Power Supply's plug, thus I had to find a fast solution which was the PC Server for Audio Production. The problem then was that I could not use Logic anymore and I started buying the other DAWs (DP8 first), then Cubase because DP8 was too complicated. I also had Sequoia. There was not a Trial version of anything. I am the one who asked Apple to make the Trial Version on 2017 though 😝 which is now available for 90 days. For composers that need to find and try Logic. I think that in the studio it is always better to have different DAWs and know how to use them.
Technical question
Hi all, I’m about to switch from MacBook to PC and I was wondering if you have any suggestions what should I pay attention to. I mean less obvious things than gazillion of RAM and CPU that will fly me to the moon. I’m not very advanced in technical world so talk to me like I’m 6 years old 🙃 thanks in advance!

@David Bradbury thank you. What is the reason why you want to come back to a PC from Mac?Mac Studio M1 is a great machine. I am looking forward to buy a Mac Studio as well. Regarding the difference in price if you buy a PC machine from a professional technician, the price is the same of a custom PC for gaming. The professional will be only focused on the audio production side. I personally invest on Mac, there is no difference in price between a Mac Studio and a PC built for audio when you ask for cores, RAM and HDs. Maybe few pounds. But honestly, if you call Apple for assistance even with a Vintage or Obsolete machine, you will be assisted. Further, Apple will never charge users for every macOS or Pro Apps or Apps updates. Stability is absolutely strong if you keep your machine updated and check before updating that all your third party plugins are compatible with the update. If your plan is to bind a slave machine PC based using VEP is a different story. It depends on your needs I think.

@David Bradbury that's grand. 🤣 Apple Silicon is really powerful and it has been a real innovation.
