WD: What’s a mistake you see people make all the time in your area of expertise?
This is probably one of the reasons why you wrote your book in the first place, but try and think of a mistake people typically make. (bonus if you can name a few!) Side note - this is an excellent thing to think of when creating social media content!

One mistake I’ve noticed over time, especially with new authors is this: They finish their book and only then start thinking about how to market it. I understand it, because I did the same thing. In many ways, it’s not that different from other areas of life whether it’s a project, a career move, or even writing itself. We focus on the work in front of us, but don’t always think far enough ahead about what comes next. The challenge is that visibility takes time to build. Platforms, connections, and simple habits don’t happen overnight, and when you wait until launch day, you’re already behind. A few other common missteps I’ve noticed: • Relying too heavily on paid ads before understanding what actually works • Trying to do everything at once instead of focusing on a few consistent actions • Promoting too quickly in groups instead of first building genuine engagement None of these are fatal, but they can slow things down and lead to frustration. What made the difference for me was shifting to a steady, low-cost approach and giving those efforts time to work. Right now - 49 months of sales every month without fail, some good months and some not so good months - but monthly sales. This has worked for me.
Hate social media? This video is ... FOR YOU :)
Happy Friday friends ... I hear this so often I made a video to address it: "I just need to grow my social media and the book sales will follow." I get it. It sounds logical. But I want to push back on that because I think it's sending a lot of great authors down a very slow, very frustrating road. I was listening to Don't Write THAT Book with Mike Michalowicz recently, and his co-host asked him how he managed to sell thousands of copies at launch. His answer? 18 years of networking. Not a viral TikTok. Not a perfectly optimized Instagram grid. Eighteen years of showing up, building relationships, and earning trust. That is the part few authors who have big launches say out loud. There is no strategy that works instantly. But social media is genuinely one of the slower ones, especially if you're starting from scratch. You're competing with full-time creators, AI-generated content, and algorithms that don't care about your goals. That doesn't mean skip it. There's real value in social media — I use it myself and I believe in it as part of a bigger picture. But it's an amplifier, not a foundation. And if it's your entire plan, you're essentially outsourcing your book's future to an algorithm. I made a video breaking all of this down, including the numbers behind where book revenue is actually growing right now. Dropping it here because I think it'll reframe some things for you.

OK all - in response to Julie's warning about Social Media and posting/advertising there. this just happened to me. For some unknown reason at this time - my Facebook page has been suspended. I have appealed it...But who really knows why - it could even have been something I objected to back in Covid days. You never know - all they say is that something I posted did not meet standards. Lately I have posted many times about my latest book - Book Marketing on a Budget - Simple Steps for New Authors. Make sure you do not put all your eggs (not an Easter pun) in one basket. I'll keep you posted, but for now my account has been taken down.

@Gary Anderson not that I recall Gary. I have spoken about Remington Arms on some subgroups I belong to - but the subgroups deal with my hometown of Ilion NY and that is the Birthplace of the Remington Rifle. Who knows what sets these folks off. I have my own website, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit and Instagram. I'll be alright.

@Stephen Shapiro I agree with both Shane and Lloyd - keep at it and write another book.

Launch Strategy - Does this sound right?
Hello Friends, My release date is April 25, but with so many unexpected things that have come up, I lost sight of my exact strategy. Please give me some feedback on the points below. Here is my plan for now. 1. I will set a release date on Ingram, Amazon for end of April. It will be available on my website too through Lulu. 2. I plan to make it available for a 50% discount for the first month to motivate people to buy it and to ask for reviews. I have already updated my website, gotten a few proofs of the book in print and ebook to see if I have to make corrections, reinvigorated my social media, and have done some speaking engagements to tease the book release. I’m finding the pre-sale strategy confusing at the moment because I don’t like that you can’t do one through Amazon for print. Thanks so much in advance for any thoughts that you can share 🙏🏽

Are you planning for a pre-order? One month is not long enough with IS. I learned that lesson the hard way.
