Today I was reminded of a practice I learned early in my YHC journey: the Care Chair.
When a member completes a full year with me, we place her in the chair and use one simple sentence stem:“I appreciate you for…”
Each person shares something small and true about how that woman has impacted them. And it’s so empowering every time we do it.
We did this for one of my clients today, and it struck me again how community isn’t built through amazing content or strategy (these are great, but not the keystone). It’s built through time, presence, and being truly heard and acknowledged.
Leadership doesn’t come from trying to be impressive. It comes from showing up long enough for others to feel your groundedness, steadiness and ongoing support.
If you’re ever unsure how to close a quarter or a year inside your own community, this practice my favourite. It's simple, human and deeply connective.
Self Reflection:
If you were in the Care Chair today, what do you hope someone would genuinely say they appreciate you for?
(sending love from the boat... the dream is starting to take shape...)
