Even though it constitutes multiple items - PPE. I’ve worked with both new and old timers who don’t wear glasses, masks, or ear protection, and while in the short term “it’s just a few rips/cuts, I don’t need them” sounds reasonable, that thinking adds up over an 8-hour day, let alone a 20-year career. Hearing loss doesn’t happen in one cut. Lung damage doesn’t come from one board. Eye injuries don’t care how experienced you are. In my opinion, the most underrated tool in the shop isn’t something that makes work faster, it’s the one that lets you keep working.

The most underrated tool in my shop is my hand plane. It needs a tune-up, and I just haven't taken the time to fix it.

Most underrated for me is shop towels and or rags. Use them all the time to wipe glue, finishing, other uses and just wiping sweat from my face lol.
