Plasticity Lacks Basic File & Workspace Functionality
I've been using Plasticity now for two months and while it is without doubt a powerful modeling program it can be frustrating to use at times. I come from a 3ds max background and did initial testing of the program here n Australia prior to its initial release. One of the things I loved about the program was its similarity to Autocad that I'd used since 1982/3, again just after it was released. Viewports were, and remain, a key feature when creating 3D models using reference images and the lack of them in Plasticity is, for me, a real issue. While you can create a working plane using any surface as a reference, clicking on the screen causes it to change and if you're creating splines, you have little control over where they are in 3D space. While Plasticity does not maintain a screen lock and doesn't have viewports, or file thumbnails or a myriad of other common 3D program features, it can only be hoped that this will change in the future. I think Plasticity has a great future, but not if it comes at the expense of causing user frustration.
I have created and saved almost 100 models I've done in Plasticity over the two months I've used the program - basically simple common objects - but trying to find a particularly model I want to look at again causes great frustration as I often have to open many files to get to the one I want. Perhaps I could improve my naming convention or how I work, but I shouldn't have to as thumbnails should be there for every file. The longer Plasticity goes on without thumbnails, the bigger the problem is going to get for me and probably you too.
