Doctors and period pain

Hi everyone!

Something that I'm very curious to hear about is whether any of you have found valuable help from doctors.

I have very debilitating period pain, and I'm still seeking a way to deal with it. But anytime I tried to talk to a doctor about it (either my general doctor or my gynecologist), their answer was just prescribing painkillers or birth control. Which are not good for me because I'm allergic to painkillers and I don't want to go on birth control.

So, I'm curious to know what your experience with doctors was, and if it was a positive one, what kind of doctor was it? And in which country? (I'm Italian, by the way)
