Improved Drawing + Tool Suggestions
I did another revision on one of my very first drawings with a different reference photo and color palette. I'm really happy with how it turned out and seeing my progress. My first drawing took around 20-30 minutes to do, including planning. This time it took maybe about 2-2.5 hours and the extra time really shows. I also discovered some neat tools that really made a difference. The first tool is a grid maker, which breaks my image down to any size squares that I want. This is great for helping me stay on track and focus on a square at a time while I'm still learning. There are a lot of grid makers either online or in app form and are mostly free. I also got a color and palette picker to help me pick out the colors being used. This is a great tool to help me identify which colors are being used in a photo if there are a lot of colors going on and I feel overwhelmed. I don't really adhere to it and sometimes I'll choose something different but it's been great in helping me identify colors.

The Importance of Experimenting
Hey everyone! I haven't been posting any new drawings lately because I've been focusing on understanding my new oil pastels. The jump from my other pastels to Sennelier was so large for me that they've been feeling like a whole new medium. They're soft, buttery, have a higher saturation of color, and at times feel more like oil painting than pastels. I wasn't happy with my work anymore so I needed to start from square one. Taking this time to experiment with techniques and the tools I have on hand has truly been educational for me. I have a much better understanding about layering, transparency, color theory, and detail work. It may be hard to see in the photos but I wrote down the colors I used and which tools gave me some of the best detail. Also, it was just fun for me to do whatever I wanted and freely make mistakes, which turned into lessons. These exercises will serve as references for new pieces. I can't wait to show what I've learned! Ps. The art manager also approves of my progress.
