The Problem
If you've been searching for your sponsored job posts on Indeed lately and coming up empty-handed, you're not going crazy. Multiple shop owners have reported the same issue: their ads seem to have vanished from search results, even though they're paying for daily sponsorship.
Here's What's Really Happening
I just got off the phone with my contact at Indeed who finally shed light on this mystery.
Earlier this year, Indeed rolled out a major algorithm update that fundamentally changed how job posts are displayed.
The new system uses AI to analyze searchers' profiles and IP addresses and only shows jobs to "qualified" candidates.
Here's what that means:
- If someone's Indeed resume shows primarily customer service experience, they won't see your tech position
- If an IP address is associated with your shop's Indeed employer account, you won't see your own posts
- Even sponsored posts with active budgets are hidden from "unqualified" viewers
Why Indeed Made This Change
Two strategic reasons:
- Better Candidate Quality: By hiding jobs from unqualified applicants, Indeed aims to reduce the flood of irrelevant applications we all deal with daily
- Budget Protection: Every click costs money from your sponsorship budget. Indeed blocks employer clicks to prevent you from accidentally draining your own advertising dollars
The Solution: How to Verify Your Posts Are Live
✅ Check Your Analytics Dashboard: This shows real-time data on who's viewing and applying. If you see activity here, your post is live and working.
✅ Use "View Public Job Page": In your employer dashboard, click this link next to any live posting to see exactly how it appears to candidates.
✅ Monitor Your Application Flow: The best proof your ads are working? Quality applications coming through.
Bottom Line
Your posts haven't disappeared – they're just being shown to a more targeted audience. While it's unnerving not being able to see your own ads, this change should theoretically deliver more qualified candidates to your inbox.
I'm skeptical that this strategy is working because we still see radom applications coming in all of the time but time will tell if they are able to dial it in and produce more consistently qualified applicants.
So, keep an eye on your analytics, not the public search results. That's where the real story lives.
Have you noticed a change in applicant quality since this update?

P.S. If you are relying on Indeed search exclusively to find candidates, you've lost the game before you even started. But that's a conversation for another post😉
