Edith: Porsche's Volcano Ascent
I just watched a documentary tonight that you have to see!
I grew up a poor kid and not a huge fan of Porsche but this account of their ascent of Ojos del Salado in Chile is breathtaking and made me a believer.
The teamwork, overcoming politics, decisive leadership, world-class mechanical and technical expertise and single-minded determination to achieve this goal sets a standard that we all could be proud of pursuing for our own businesses.
Here's a brief synopsis of the documentary:
Edith: Porsche's Volcano Ascent" is a gripping 50-minute documentary that chronicles an extraordinary four-and-a-half-year quest to break the world altitude driving record.
The film follows a small, determined team as they attempt to drive a specially modified Porsche 911, nicknamed "Edith," to the summit of Ojos del Salado in Chile, the world's highest active volcano.
Led by Le Mans champion Romain Dumas, the team faces extreme conditions including temperatures well below freezing, altitudes over 20,000 feet, and air so thin it's half what their bodies were used to.
After two failed attempts and operating as a secret "submarine project" hidden from Porsche's board of directors, the team makes one final push to achieve what would become the most extreme automotive hill-climb ever attempted in a sports car.
It's a super cool documentary with breathtaking visuals. If you need some inspiration on why we do what we do, you can check it out here: Edith: Porsche's Volcano Ascent
