The TRUE value of knowledge
I have been thinking about this concept for a while and I have been contemplating what the true value of knowledge was. I am sure that we have all heard the concept that knowledge is power, and those of us that are a bit more knowledgeable about that cliché would say it is only potential power, but the real question on my mind and I think on a lot of our minds is probably how do we convert knowledge to actual power, hence the concept "the value of knowledge".
I submit to you that knowledge is only valuable to the degree to which that knowledge can lead to a change in behavior. If knowledge accumulated leads to no change in behavior then that knowledge is valueless to the individual consuming it and if it does have any inherent value it is probably stuck in the "potential zone".
So how do we solve this problem? Through intentional consumption. I would like to share a razor question I use to help me with this filtering. Before opening that 300 page book I ask myself is the information contained in this likely to contain information that can be applied immediately or in the near future and while reading or consuming being more active in absorbing information by writing down things that I can apply immediately from the new information acquired from the book, podcast or video.
Humans are naturally forgetful creatures and if you have no avenue to apply, you will most likely forget, and time you thought was being spent being productive might not be as productive as you thought and dare I say a waste.
Would love to know what you think, still refining this concept in my head.
