(In the spirit of learning in public, these notes are still in progress of distilling.)
Here's what stood out to me:
Category Fatigue (Rian)
- Breakout success = being known for one thing or owning one word.
- You want to categorize people into one thing, It makes it easier for people to remember you.
Example: Andrew Kirby: Synthesizers
- Andrew went meta here, because synthesizers are jack of all trades. He highlighted jack of all trades as a niche. It's a paradox.
Symbols create communities (Zach Pogrob)
- Have at least ONE thing that makes it easy for people to remember you.
- Ex1: Hormozi’s mustache gives your community tools to create for you.
- E2: Zack makes symbols and frameworks that people build communities around themselves
Notes:
Name everything. yes. everything.
Create and combine frameworks and mental modes to organize your thoughts better.
This makes you a better communicator.
Better communication = Shareable.
Framework thinking:
- Helps you clearly describe the specific causes that give specific effects / results
- Increases the credibility of your message
- Increases shareability of your message (WOM)
- Makes your ideas memorable (Sticky) to your audience.
The 2 step process to Thumbnails:
1. They need to SEE it. (use thumbsup.tv)
2. They need to be like "oh I wanna click it"
note: Quickly test thumbnails on mobile using thumbsup.tv Be Story Ready (Charlie - Charisma On Command)
Don't have just one story. Have multiple stories ready to go at varying lengths.
- 15 second version
- 2 minute version
- 5 minute versions
- 10 minute version
- 1 hour long version
- (positioning) key
Note: This 100x your serendipity and removes friction when creating content individually and collaboratively. My solution has been writing them down in Obsidian, and crystallizing them.
Be Hook Ready (Charlie - Charisma On Command)
- When asked "what do you do". Don't tell it to them straight. Tell a story.
- They’re actually looking for multiple points of interest (hooks) in your story.
- Stories can include 20 hooks. (Use And, But, Therefore a lot)
The Audience Capture Dillema (Chris)
- Read this article to get a useful model to identify your mental health as a creator.
- I can say "The Perils of Audience Capture" is one of the most important things I've read in 2023
- The best creators do what they want, not what the audience wants. (Sam Ovens)
- The people that lean into the audience too much just lose what they’re about.
Tasteful polarization creates an engaged community (Ed)
The stages of the influencer: Ascension, Maturity, Parody.
- Ascension - When the creator starts finding traction
- Maturity - The creator has successfully created their own category
- Parody - The creator becomes a parody of themselves
My Questions:
- How do you avoid becoming a parody while still being memorable?
- How do you progress through these stages while embracing chaos and order?
