Desperately Seeking Lessons
Hello all! I have tried desperately to get lessons here in Houston but to no avail I have yet to cross paths with any instructors. I prefer and need in person lessons along with the online. It would be greatly appreciated if someone would share any info on an instructor here. Also, Mr. Allen, will you be hosting any in person lessons? Since I missed you when you were here, I will happily travel to where you are for that. Thanks in advance.

Skate styles
Anyone ever just sit down and write out a little bit about all the different rhythm skate styles? I did 😂 I will put some here and please join in and add things that I have missed! NY/NY - seems based in house music. Lots of pivots, trains and trios, figure 8’s, footwork on the 2,4,6 and 8 beat. Chicago- JB or James Brown. Footwork. Four corners, Big Wheel, Buckey Walk. ATL - real swaggy, ryding. Leg crossing, claps and stomps on the beat. Seems faster than the other rhythm styles except for …. Philly - Fast backwards looking over their left shoulder is their claim to fame. Cleveland - jumps! Stomping on beat (literally mesmerizing), group skating. Striding. Detroit - high kicks, intricate footwork using their toe stops, group formations. Cali - LA based. Sliding on fibers. Smooth. I like how they customize dress shoes into skates. St Louis - couple and ballroom skating. G slide DMV area - snappin. 180 degree pivots on one leg. Footwork. Like how there is someone else skating with them to support the “snap”. What’s your favorite style???

@Marisa Sa same!! I love to watch style calls at events. Eventually I need to narrow down and learn a style. I’m leaning towards St Louis .. even though I’m in New York State

Outdoor wheels
Hey everyone!!! I need some outdoor wheels that have some slip to them. I went to the court today and felt that I was really held back trying different moves with sticky soft wheels. What’s everyone using for outdoor dance wheels?

Keeping social media in perspective.
I know you never get to see the hours others put into skating to get as good as they are online. Tough to not compare yourself when you've been out here 6-8 hours a week for 2 years and can't do half the things they are doing. Guess we gotta lock in the training lol.

I definitely have a hard time keeping things in perspective. I love skating so much and feel like I’m not progressing compared to what I see on social media. And then I have to remember that some of these people have been skating since they could WALK. It’s just not the same. Plus I started as a fully grown adult who has no athletic ability whatsoever. No dance classes. No nothing. And a whole lot of anxiety which also keeps me from going full send.
Recommendations 4 Skates?
Hi, I am just getting into rollerskating. I am confused on what type of skates to get for myself. The skating rink I go to only goes up to a size 13 and sadly I wear a size 15. I was recommended to buy some SureGrip GT50 skates. Are there any other (if better) skates I should get before confirming the purchase?

A 15 skate or a 15 shoe? Cuz different skate brands have their own sizes. Like it doesn’t always go by your shoe size. I don’t really like those derby/flat skates but that’s just my preference. I would have some customs made if it were me.
