Don’t miss twice
I’m rehabing an injury this week and catching up on some reading.
I was reading Atomic Habits and this line stuck with me especially after reading some community members were talking about missing a session last week.
“The first mistake is never the one that ruins you. It is the spiral of repeated mistakes that follows. Missing once is an accident. Missing twice is the start of a new habit.”
My reading is, do anything to avoid missing twice
Think about that for us. You miss Tuesday’s session because work later than planned. That’s an accident, that’s part of being a working athlete
But when you also skip Wednesday, that’s the start of a new habit: not riding.
The rule is: miss once if you must, but don’t miss twice.
Get back on the bike, even if it’s just 20 easy minutes on the turbo.
That’s how you protect momentum and keep your identity as a rider intact.
