Blue Intentionality
I chose a blue basket weave Oxford shirt and built my outfit from there. Blue is the most versatile shirt color hands down, after that comes white and after that comes pink. With these three colors one’s wardrobe choices are virtually endless. The suit I wore is a fancy stripe with a warp and weave of charcoal brown and light grey which reads beige from a distance. I had this suit made in 1996. I also commissioned the Allen Edmonds shell cordovan brogues in a Brittish tan color when I ordered this suit. I was very intentional in ‘95 and ‘96 having made three suits in those two years. One was the medium grey suit I wore last week with a yellow tie, the other one is a true navy herringbone I wore to a gala a couple of weeks ago. These thirty-plus year-old suits have served me very well in many ways since the styling is perpetual: 3/2 buttoned coat, the dart-less single vent and the double forward pleated and cuffed trousers. Not only is the styling classic but the colors are as well. Since I already owned the most versatile color of suit one can own- an off the rack charcoal grey Southwick suit which I still have, and once I settle in on weight and dimensions will have the moth holes rewoven, in the 1990’s, I decided to complete my suit wardrobe with the medium grey suit, and then the navy followed and then one year later the basic wardrobe was completed by the tanish color (the suit I have on today). The point of all of this is to prove how, while expensive at the time, these colors and style choices were very intentional and have served me very well for a long time. Which is the Real Issue? (Humor)
In the midst of all the turmoil in our world, I like to look for humor, sometimes accompanied by a dose of irony, confusion or just minor bewilderment. This is a sign I observed above a urinal in the restroom of a large humanitarian organization in Washington DC. My first thought was, “Ok, I hereby promise not to do any of the aforementioned acts.” But then I focused on the word “paperclips”. I wondered if this was really an issue. Is this an isolated problem? Something initiated or maybe exacerbated by Covid? A regional tradition? Brothers, I have to confess, I was unaware of the practice of throwing paper lips in a urinal! Was it just an isolated case of a man relieving himself while perusing a recently received manuscript and in the process losing said paper clip? Of course, this lead my brain to wonder how often this curious (and apparently heinous) act occurs, that it warrants an official warning? And then I question the personality of the person with the authority and responsibility for protecting the integrity of said urinal. Is this so egregious and/or common an act as to warrant an official written warning? Obviously, I will probably never know the true answers to my questions. But brothers, I have to ask, have you ever been tempted to throw a paperclip into a urinal?

OOTD - Thursday 9 Junky
Man I love how the Van Wijk knot looks, the structure to the stack and the way the dimple comes out are just perfect. This is what I wore to the client interview today, and if I can toot my own horn, it went well. I always interview well, it’s that gift of the gab thing. Having grown up in a defense family and spending 26 years in the navy myself I am very comfortable talking to people. The role should be interesting, but I wont know until probably tomorrow (Friday here) and Start on the Monday at the earliest. Todays outfit consists of; M.J. Bale Pascal Peacoat in Navy. Such an amazing coat to wear in 4°C (40°F), M.J. Bale Aston Suit in a Charcoal Super 120’s cloth, with a subtle Navy POW check, Charles Tyrwhitt Twill Prince of Wales Check Shirt in Light Blue, and probably my favourite shirt, OTAA Silver Navy And Light Blue Striped Tie with the amazing Van Wijk Knot, Anson Black Premium leather strap with a Classic Curved buckle in Gunmetal Mr Perfect Sock, I can wear these guilt free as they were given to me by my wife 😜 Ecco Vitrus Penny Loafer, SOTD - Dior Fahrenheit Parfum WOTD - Islander Greenport with Stone Grey Dial and Sky Blue Accents
