Were we really that stupid and vain?
Good morning gentlemen,
You know recently I have been so impressed in reading and hearing about gentlemen in this community that are taking on different task in their journey of being a gentleman. I have read and seen the product of some amazing gentlemen doing things that at one point we all considered women’s work or beneath our status as men. I would have never thought that I would be in a forum listening to men talk about outfits, fragrances, ( which we wouldn’t even use that word we would say colognes), sewing, cooking, baking, repairing shoes.
But here we all are, discussing, encouraging others, providing advice, discussing deals on purchasing items, talking about fragrances and when is a good time to wear certain ones. And you know what? The sad part is there are so many former us out there that are “Stuck on Stupid”). They think that these things make them feel less of a man, when in reality this makes you more of a gentleman because you have worth, integrity, creativity, and respect. For me I began cooking and learning how to cook different things other than my famous peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I learned how to mend and repair clothing to some extent, I learned how to strip and polish shoes, learning through the brotherhood of fragrances what are notes, and when are the best times to wear certain fragrances. I have gone back to writing in cursive, and reading more books and journaling daily. All these things that I use to think would make me weak and less of a man. Now here I am with so many great gentlemen who inspire me and give me inspiration to want to learn and grow. I looking forward to taking sewing classes, more cooking classes, wine testing, learning more about pipe tobacco and cigars, learning more about jazz and classical music, deeper into the world of fragrances, and fashion.
Gentlemen, do not let that caveman mentality prevent you from becoming a renaissance gentleman. Grow, learn, explore, expand your horizons, and then share with others. Find someone around you that you can mentor and disciple into becoming a gentlemen.
My advice to you is this, if you are going to be in a group of people that are not up to the standards and level you are then be ineffective in there’s but don’t let them be effective in yours.
