My friend Dr Smith attends my Wednesday men’s group at the church. When I complimented him on his great Madras shirt he said “ it’s probably older than you are”. While that’s not true I couldn’t help but laugh. That’s a line I frequently use accurately. When I was an impromptu panelist on a zoom call with you fellas several chat responses from younger guys commented on my clothing being older than they: 1982 shell cordovan shoes; 1981 ties: even 1995 suits. This is a testament to the enduring capacity of Classic timeless menswear to show its value. Certain items simply never go out of style. On an aside I found 4 pair of trousers while inventorying the Harold’s warehouse in 1981. They were lined madras slacks that the coding on the tag showed them to be from 1966 ( already 25 yeas old at the time). Three of my buddies and I put on navy blazers and wool beanies (I found in the same warehouse of the same vintage) as a Halloween costume. Madras is one of those great items that never goes out of style. The real thing is made up of natural dyes that tend to get better with age.
