CW = Critiques Welcome!
Four meetings today, all internal. My main focus for today is to help my teams move our projects forward as I will be meeting with our largest client for dinner soon. It's always wise to knock their socks off before showing up.
On the sartorial stage, I did get to some shoe care this weekend. It's still a learning curve, but I went all the way to a poorly executed mirror shine on the toe cap of my wholecuts. My oft worn brown AE oxfords also needed some TLC so I nourished, polished, and waxed these guys. Sadly, two pairs in one weekend is a record!
Finally, after getting another navy blazer that fit well out of the box (sleeves on the shirt are too long, but the jacket sleeves are great), I wanted a traditional Americana outfit.
Theme: 🇺🇸 Classic American Style
• Odd Jacket — DOJ-010 (Ralph Lauren): A navy wool blazer with gold brass buttons—the quintessential American classic. This single-breasted 2-button jacket features rope and padded shoulders, high & moderate armholes, small notched lapels, and a single rear vent. The full polyester lining in solid navy ensures clean lines, while the four gold wrist buttons complete the Ivy League aesthetic. An excellent fit rating (5/5) means this piece anchors the Classic American look with confidence and polish.
• Shirt — DS-044 (Charles Tyrwhitt): A crisp white non-iron poplin dress shirt with French cuffs and a semi-spread collar (5" spread). The slim-fit cotton construction offers clean, all-American simplicity—there's nothing more timelessly American than a white dress shirt paired with a navy blazer. High stitch density (5/5), soft hand, and medium opacity make this a boardroom-ready foundation. The square-edge French cuffs add executive refinement while remaining appropriately understated for the classic aesthetic.
• Undershirt — US-001 (True Classic): A white cotton-polyester blend crew neck undershirt with light drape. The snug-but-comfortable fit provides excellent coverage under the white poplin without any show-through risk—essential when the dress shirt is your canvas of American tradition.
• Slacks — SL-008 (Santorelli): Khaki wool trousers with a basket weave texture and full break—the classic navy-and-khaki American prep combination realized. These tailored slacks (size 38) feature regular cuffs, belt anchors, and a medium drape that falls elegantly without feeling heavy. The "Fantastic!" fit verdict confirms these are the perfect complement to the Ralph Lauren blazer, evoking East Coast prep school elegance.
• Tie — NT-015 (Nordstrom): A silk tie in red, blue, and white diagonal stripes with diamond accents—American flag colors subtly incorporated into the ensemble. The 3-fold construction with keeper loop and untipped finish at 59" length creates a classic triangle blade shape. This regimental-style stripe tie is the essence of American business tradition, tied in a Four-in-Hand for classic proportions.
• Pocket Square — PS-006 (Fort Belvedere): A white Irish linen pocket square with red border detailing (13.5"). The red accent ties back to the tie's patriotic color story without being matchy-matchy—following Gentleman's Gazette principles of coordination over replication. Presented in a TV Fold (Presidential) for clean, conservative American style.
• Belt — B-001 (Hanks): A black Highlined leather belt with flat top/bottom stitching and silver buckle. Made by Hanks—an American company known for quality leather goods—this belt features a single collar, pill-shape hole design, and removable buckle. The "Very good" fit verdict and durable American craftsmanship make this the right choice for grounding the outfit.
• Footwear — DSh-007 (Allen Edmonds): Chocolate brown cap-toe Oxfords in Goodyear welt construction—the gold standard of American shoemaking. Made in the USA, these dress shoes feature stacked leather heels, leather soles, and flat dark brown waxed cotton laces from Kirby Allison. The break-in is complete, and these develop beautiful patina over time. Business formal and board-meeting ready, yet perfectly at home at a pitching lesson with the casual sophistication of American classics.
• Socks — DSo-078 (Kirby Allison / Bresciani): Italian-made over-the-calf cotton socks in navy with red contrasting ribs. The bold color combination continues the red-white-blue theme with sophisticated restraint—each color usable individually while together creating unmistakable American prep coordination. Matte finish and business classic formality ensure these work for both VCs and sideline seating.
• Cufflinks — CL-011 (Gold): Gold rectangle-on-woven-gold-rectangle cufflinks with T-bar backing. These plated gold cufflinks coordinate beautifully with the blazer's gold brass buttons—a critical detail for the Classic American look where metal consistency matters. Medium-sized and single-sided, they add executive polish without overwhelming the French cuffs.
• Watch — W-002 (Movado Museum Classic): The iconic Movado Museum watch with its signature single dot at 12 o'clock—an American design icon in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. The 40mm stainless steel case houses Swiss quartz movement, featuring a black sunburst concave dial and calfskin leather strap. Minimalist, elegant, and unmistakably American modernist design. Perfect for formal settings and the refined understatement this outfit demands.
• Pen — P-002 (Montblanc Meisterstück 149): The flagship Montblanc fountain pen in black precious resin with platinum trim, featuring an 18K gold BB nib with rhodium inlay. While German-made, the Meisterstück has become synonymous with American executive culture—a pen that signals authority and attention to detail. The wet ink flow, 2.1ml capacity piston filler, and iconic status make this "the quintessential desk pen" for note-taking during VCs.
• Business Card Case — BCC-001 (Fort Belvedere): A black German aniline leather bifold card case with silver clasp and green goat velour interior (4.25" x 3"). The rippled, padded leather backing and slim profile fit perfectly in coat business card pockets—ready for any professional exchange during today's meetings.
• Fragrance — FR-002 (Dua Brand "Turnin 21"): A citrus aromatic extrait de parfum featuring a medley of lemon, bergamot, and grapefruit with neroli, aquatic notes, and soft woods in the base. Moderate-to-strong projection with 6-9 hour longevity. The fresh, energetic character is perfect for spring weather and the dynamic mix of video conferences and outdoor pitching lessons. Clean, youthful but polished—an "on-the-move" leadership tone that bridges business and family time.
• Ring — R-001 (Wedding Ring): Platinum band with diamonds. Always worn, always essential.
Color Story: 🇺🇸 Classic American Prep — Navy blazer with gold buttons anchors the palette. White dress shirt provides the clean American canvas. Khaki wool trousers create the quintessential navy-khaki prep combination. Red/blue/white tie delivers subtle patriotic flair. Gold metals (buttons, cufflinks) maintain consistency. Brown shoes add warmth while keeping formality. Navy/red socks bridge the American color story from ankle to trouser.
