Airline travel day
As much as the airport can be a wasteland of sartorialism, I still see green shoots when flying. I save several men in blazers and slacks today. No ties, but many in leather soles shoes.
As much as I like flying in a jacket and tie or vest and tie, today's family travel required both a keenly determined outfit and something to set the tone for the more relaxed trip. The keenly determined aspect was required to ensure my bulkiest items made it on the plane with me vs. a suitcase: Chelsea boots, seersuckers blazer, Panama hat. I was not sure what I was going to wear on the flight until about a week ago when I ran across this blazer on eBay. The different colors for a seersucker (vs. tradition white and blue) totally drew me in. I received the jacket Monday, and the fit was more than good to take without tailoring. I also needed something to wear about when we land in Athens in 400 degree heat!
Here are the rest of the outfit details:
• Hybrid Shirt — HS-012 (Charles Tyrwhitt): Olive green pure linen long-sleeve with barrel cuffs featuring two-button closures. The breathable linen is perfect for Mediterranean travel, while the refined olive tone coordinates beautifully with today's earth-tone palette.
• Slacks — PN-014 (CLSEN): Sand linen lounge slacks with elastic waist for all-day travel comfort. The lightweight linen construction ensures breathability through airports and onto the ship, while the neutral sand color anchors the relaxed-yet-polished aesthetic.
• Odd Jacket — DOJ-012 (Haspel): Tan and cream seersucker blazer with 2-button front and notched lapels. Made from 100% cotton in size 42R. The classic seersucker texture provides visual interest and excellent temperature regulation—a summer travel essential since the 1920s.
• Belt — B-010 (Magnanni): Caramel brown leather with silver buckle. The warm brown creates cohesion with the suede boots while the silver hardware echoes the watch case.
• Footwear — DSh-010 (Cobbler Union): Dark brown suede Chelsea boots in the "Benjamin" style on the Ritz last. Goodyear-welted construction from this Spanish atelier ensures durability through long travel days. The Chelsea silhouette offers easy on-off at security while maintaining sophistication.
• Dress Socks — DSo-077 (Kirby Allison): Tan over-the-calf socks with cream polka dots in 92x2 Egyptian cotton. The tan base bridges the sand slacks and brown leather, while the playful dots add a touch of personality visible only at the right moments.
• Pocket Square — PS-016 (Fort Belvedere): White linen with a green square near the edge, 14.5" square. The linen weight echoes both shirt and slacks while the green accent subtly connects to the olive shirt. A refined touch without competing for attention.
• Left Wrist Watch — W-003 (Fossil): Neutra chronograph quartz with light tan sunray dial and polished/brushed stainless steel case at 44mm. Features 30-minute and 24-hour subdials with date window at 3 o'clock. The warm tan dial coordinates beautifully with the earth-tone travel ensemble, while the havana brown leather band ties directly to the belt and Chelsea boots. Applied indices and Super-LumiNova ensure legibility in any lighting. A versatile mid-century-inspired daily driver perfect for long travel days.
• Ankle Watch — W-001 (Apple Watch): Series 10 titanium in slate for discreet connectivity during international travel—boarding passes, notifications, and health tracking without visible tech distraction above the cuff.
• Business Card Carrier — BCC-002 (Fort Belvedere): Brown bison leather with tan interior and silver clasp in bifold design. The textured bison grain adds visual interest while coordinating with the leather accessories. Ready for any networking opportunities that arise.
• Leather Carry — CRY-002 (Carl Friedrik): Palissy Double briefcase in chocolate brown Italian vachetta leather with silver hardware. 15" laptop sleeve, Smart Holder trolley attachment, and dual zipped compartments for organized travel. GQ-recognized professional-grade carry.
• Wallet — WL-002 (Fort Belvedere): Classic 10-card bifold in mahogany full-grain bullhide with petrol blue contrast stitching and RFID blocking. Italian-tanned leather with viscose moire lining in forest green. The perfect slim profile for travel security.
• Eyewear — EW-006 (Persol): PO3019S sunglasses in havana tortoise with crystal glass lenses tinted with an almond color. Made in Italy with the signature Meflecto flexible temples. The square shape frames the face well, while the brown tortoise harmonizes with the earth-tone outfit. 100% UV protection for Mediterranean sun.
• Headwear — HW-004 (Panama Hats Direct): Cuenca Grade 6 Classic Fedora in natural toquilla palm straw with black and brown grosgrain band. Hand-woven in Ecuador with center dent crown and 3"+ snap brim. Packable for travel—essential sun protection with timeless elegance.
• Fragrance — FR-023 (Chanel): Bleu de Chanel Parfum. The most potent concentration—opens with lemon zest, bergamot, and mint, develops through geranium, and settles into New Caledonian sandalwood, cedar, and tonka bean. 8-12 hour longevity ensures presence from LAX through Athens arrival.
• Ring — R-001: Platinum wedding band with diamonds. The constant.
• Undershirt — US-007 (Pro Club): Chocolate heavyweight cotton crew neck. The dark color provides coverage under the olive linen shirt while the substantial weight prevents cling during travel.
Today's Theme: Mediterranean Departure — Earth tones and natural textures (linen, seersucker, suede) create a cohesive warm-weather travel ensemble. The intentional coordination between the hunter green watch dial and olive shirt demonstrates thoughtful accessorizing, while the brown leather accessories maintain tonal harmony throughout. Comfort-focused pieces (elastic waist slacks, Chelsea boots, packable Panama) acknowledge the realities of international travel without sacrificing style. Ready for anything from airport lounges to Athenian sunsets.
