Even more urgent panic! Still, heartened by everyone in the company jumping in to take items off of my plate without my asking - or expecting - this reaction.
Wearing my first OCBD in a LONG time. I know some are not a fan of OCBDs with ties, but when a vest is your outwear, you are already down the rabbit hole of a working executive setting his own style.
🎽 The Outfit:
• Shirt — DS-015 (Tommy Hilfiger): Wrinkle-free cotton in solid purple with a button-down collar. Regular fit with barrel cuffs and chest pocket. A business casual workhorse—the rich purple provides a bold foundation for the earth-toned layers above.
• Slacks — SL-007 (Santorelli): Tobacco-colored Super 110s wool with a flat front and regular cuffs. Medium drape that moves well and breaks cleanly. The warm brown tone anchors the outfit in an autumnal palette.
• Vest — VWC-010 (PJ Paul Jones): Mid-brown herringbone tweed with orange, red, blue, and green accents. Single-breasted with 5 dark gray buttons and a metal rear buckle. The country-inspired pattern brings texture and visual depth.
• Tie — NT-035 (Silvio Fiorello "Caput Mundi: Roman Mosaic"): 3-fold Duchesse silk from Italy featuring intricate geometric patterns in purple, orange, pink, white, and lavender. 3.5" width, 59" length, self-tipped with hand-rolled edges. This is the statement piece—a work of art that ties (literally) every color in the outfit together.
• Belt — B-009 (Nordstrom): Dark brown leather with silver buckle. Classic and understated—coordinates with the tobacco slacks and brown suede loafers.
• Footwear — DSh-011 (Handsewn Company): Dark brown suede horsebit loafers, Goodyear welted in the USA. Round toe, leather sole, classic horsebit hardware. A distinguished slip-on with Mediterranean flair that complements the tweed vest's relaxed elegance.
• Socks — DSo-068 (Il Regalo): Over-the-calf cotton in burgundy with purple undertones and a herringbone pattern. The burgundy picks up the vest's red accents while the purple echoes the shirt and tie.
• Pocket Square — PS-007 (Fort Belvedere): 14.5" wool-silk blend featuring paisley center and border on a purple ground, with red, green, blue, and gold accents. A sophisticated complement that echoes without matching the tie's complexity.
• Left Watch — W-003 (Fossil "Neutra"): Quartz chronograph with light tan sunray dial, 44mm stainless steel case, and Havana leather strap. The warm leather and tan dial integrate seamlessly with the earth-tone palette.
• Ankle Watch — W-001 (Apple Watch 10): Titanium Slate, 46mm. The functional counterpart—health tracking and notifications while staying discreet at the ankle.
• Business Card Carrier — BCC-004 (Fort Belvedere): Oxblood leather bifold with turquoise interior and metal clasp. The oxblood complements the burgundy socks and adds a touch of unexpected color when opened.
• Wallet — WL-001 (Montblanc): Extreme Collection bifold in black with carbon fiber print. Italian craftsmanship, RFID blocking, 8 card slots. A modern classic.
• Fragrance — FR-017 (Chanel "Bleu de Chanel"): Eau de Parfum strength with grapefruit, mint, and pink pepper opening into ginger, jasmine, and cedar, drying down to sandalwood and labdanum. Moderate-to-strong projection lasting 6-10 hours. Fresh, sophisticated, and modern—a perfect complement to this business-forward ensemble.
• Eyewear — EW-006 (Persol PO3019S): Havana tortoise sunglasses with crystal glass lenses, made in Italy. The warm brown tones coordinate with the tobacco slacks, suede loafers, and watch strap.
• Ring — R-001 (Ellie's Jewelry): Platinum wedding band with channel-set diamonds. The constant.
🎨 Outfit Harmony Notes:
This look builds on a purple-brown-burgundy triad unified through pattern and texture:
  1. Color Story: The purple shirt establishes the chromatic anchor. The Silvio Fiorello tie—with its purple, orange, pink, and lavender mosaic—becomes the centerpiece, pulling from the shirt while introducing warm tones that echo through the tobacco slacks, brown suede loafers, and herringbone vest.
  2. The Tie is the Conductor: "Caput Mundi: Roman Mosaic" is doing heavy lifting here. Its complex geometric pattern in purple, orange, and pink justifies every color choice in the outfit. The vest's orange and red accents? Pulled from the tie. The burgundy socks? Echoed in the tie's warm notes. This is intentional, not coincidental.
  3. Texture Layering: Smooth cotton shirt → silky Duchesse tie → rustic herringbone tweed vest → soft suede horsebit loafers. Each layer adds tactile interest without competing.
  4. The Loafer Upgrade: The Handsewn Company horsebit loafers bring a touch of Italian/Mediterranean sophistication. The horsebit hardware adds a subtle metallic accent that nods to the silver belt buckle and watch case. Suede-on-suede pairing (loafers + vest texture) creates visual harmony.
  5. Warm Metal Consistency: Silver belt buckle, silver watch elements, and metal BCC clasp maintain cohesion in the hardware. The gold horsebit on the loafers provides just enough contrast to draw the eye downward.
  6. Fragrance Alignment: Bleu de Chanel's fresh-yet-sophisticated profile (citrus + cedar + sandalwood) complements the refined earthiness of the outfit. Not overpowering, but present—matching the confident statement of the tie.
💡 Styling Takeaway:
When wearing a complex, colorful tie, let it dictate the outfit's palette. Here, the "Roman Mosaic" pattern provided a roadmap: purple grounds the shirt, orange and red guide the vest selection, and burgundy informs the sock choice. The result is a cohesive look where every piece has a reason to be there.
The Horsebit Loafer Advantage: Swapping from Chelsea boots to horsebit loafers softens the overall formality slightly while adding elegance. The horsebit is a heritage detail that signals "I know classic menswear" without being stuffy. Perfect for an office day where you want to look sharp but approachable.
Pro tip: Pairing a bold tie with a tweed vest works because both items embrace pattern and texture—they're kindred spirits. A solid navy vest would have felt disconnected from the tie's energy.
