TLDR: A sudden cold snap while traveling meant a quick thrifting trip and a winter wardrobe WIN!
Monday, I took the train from my home near Washington, DC up to my girlfriend’s home in Long Island, NY. It was rainy but mild when I arrived, in the mid 60s (F). By Monday evening, a cold wave had met the rain and it was below freezing. Tuesday morning, we had a wind chill of 29° and snow flurries! This is probably 2-3 weeks early for this region. And none of it had been predicted.
I was caught without sufficiently warm shirts. So my SAG (Swiss Army Girlfriend), who is a brilliant thrifter, took me to her local favorite thrift shop, where we found some warm, dark blue twill trousers, and three excellent shirts, all for a net price of US$3.50 each!
The Duluth Trading teal plaid is a nice pop of color and was brand new with the plastic still in the collar, as was the LL Bean heavy cotton grey weave. The CQR is a heavy flannel fleece and could be an overshirt or a shirt jacket by itself.
UPDATE: Forgot to mention that I also scored a 100% cashmere black scarf for US$2.10!
