Key Concept: Dark Work
We Are a Mix:
Beliefs + Thoughts = Mindset
Actions + Thoughts = Habits
Actions + Beliefs = Ego (Everyone's Greatest Obstacle)
The true challenge lies in controlling our actions and beliefs, especially when they conflict with ego.
Will You Do It When You Don't Want To?
Success is not about doing things when it’s easy—it’s about whether you will take action when you don't want to.
The Programming of Identity:
- Identity: How you see yourself shapes everything else.
- Beliefs: Your core convictions that guide your actions.
- Thoughts: What you focus on influences your outcomes.
- Emotions: Fuel your behavior, either pushing you forward or holding you back.
- Actions: What you consistently do leads to results.
- Outcomes: The effects of your thoughts, emotions, and actions.
- Environment: Your surroundings influence your beliefs and behaviors.
The Identity Grid:
Opportunity vs. Opposition: In any situation, you either see the opportunity to grow and act or view it as opposition—an obstacle holding you back.
4 Types of People:
- Dreamer: Thinks big but lacks action.
- Dabbler: Tries things but doesn’t stick with them.
- Defender: Protects the status quo and avoids risks.
- Dominator: Takes on any challenge; sees opportunity in crisis, and takes advantage when everyone else runs away.
Respect the Process:
- Respect the Light: Acknowledge the benefits of stepping into discomfort.
- Respect the Person: Honor your growth and strength.
- Respect What You Don’t Want to Do: Lean into the things you resist—they often hold the key to growth.
Do the Work:
- Emerge from Dark Work: Embrace your struggles and challenges—they shape your future self.
- DYOD (Draw on Your Darkness): Tap into your past pain, struggles, and adversities to fuel your drive.
Shift on Demand:
You can choose to transform proactively or wait until life forces you to change (when "crap hits the fan").
This session focused on personal identity, ego, and the power of embracing discomfort to fuel transformation. Dark Work involves tapping into struggles and challenges to emerge stronger, taking on opportunities when others shy away.
