I accidentally built a community around my brand a few years ago, and it became one of the biggest hacks for networking and social momentum I’ve ever experienced. What started as a small clothing line turned into meetups, massive shoot fests, and invitations to events in other states, all because people wanted to be part of the world I created. It taught me that you don’t need to chase networking at all. If you build something people are excited to gather around, the right social circle forms on its own. These are things I stumbled upon subconsciously before joining MOA and I hope to provide some value to y'all with some of my more niche advice.
Here are the main things I learned from building that community:
• Build a world, not a product. People joined because they loved the culture around the brand, not the shirt itself. Create something with energy and people naturally want to be part of it.
• Make your IG a hub for activity. My Instagram became the central place people watched what was going on. Posting consistently created momentum and made people feel like they were missing out if they weren’t involved.
• Say yes to everything at the start. Meetups, shoots, collabs, events, random invites — all of it helped widen the community fast. Even if only five people show up, they become your core, and you can grow from there.
• Give creatives a playground. Photographers, models, stylists, and videographers LOVE having something to rally around. If you give them a cool idea or a vibe to shoot, they’ll bring people you wouldn’t have reached alone.
• Make everyone feel welcome and included. People stay in communities where they feel seen. The more supported someone feels at your event or meetup, the more likely they bring friends' next time.
• Don’t make it about getting girls. This is why my community actually thrived. No weird vibes, no thirsty energy. Just cool people creating together, which ironically makes you more high-status.
• Document everything. Stories, reels, behind the scenes — this created the “gravity” that made new people ask how they could join. The right content builds community faster than invites.
• Let the community run itself. The crazy part was seeing people becoming friends and actively supporting my brand. That’s when you know you’ve built something real.
