New Years Solutions.
This is the year we fight back. We fight. We battle our demons. Maybe we battle the part of us that scrolls social media instead of making music. Maybe we battle the part of us that overthinks everything. Maybe we battle the voice that says we can’t. Maybe we battle the distractions that pull us away from our goals. Maybe we battle the feeling that we don’t belong. Maybe we fight the voice that always says, “Maybe tomorrow.” And all of us are fighting against a soulless, artificial world. The world is in a strange place right now. It needs your voice. It needs your art. It needs your passion. There are people out there who need to be inspired, and you’re the only one who can do it. Or maybe you’re an engineer. There are artists who need you to help bring their voice to life. And you’re the one who can do it. This is the year we fight back.
Technical Question on Compressor Styles / Behaviour
Some compressors (e.g. Logic stock, and Scheps Omni Channel Comp.) offer the option to switch between different compressor types while maintaining the controls of attack / release / ratio. Let's use three common ones as example: VCA, FET and Optical (see attached screenshot). Quick simplistic summary of their behaviour (as far as I learned until now; please feel free to add/remove/correct): VCA = fast + transparent; FET = fast + colourful; OPTO = slow + transparent Now to my question: -> If attack + release are set at fixed values and I switch (let's say) from FET to OPTO, what exactly is happening internally? -> Does the knee change? Do attack + release change behind the scenes and the values on the GUI are not always 100% correct? What is going on? In another plugin, TDR Molotok, you can have an extremely short attack time and still have the transient coming through when a slower mode called Omega is activated. Same question here. I think it would help me set up my compressors better if I knew what was going on. Can anybody help? Thank you so much!! PS: If anybody owns the Scheps Omni Channel 2 and knows more about the 4 styles, including the SOFT style (beyond the too short manual description which was not sufficient for me), please enlighten me :) Again, thank you!
