Next PC Laptop for Pro Tools?
So, I am going to need to replace my everyday computer with the one I've been using for music production, which means I need to upgrade my music computer. Currently using a Dell Inspiron 15 w/1TB memory and 16gb RAM. Interface is an older Focusrite Scarlett. I've had minimal issues, but occasional freezeups. I'm looking at ASUS (Tuf, perhaps) and plan to bump up the RAM. My questions are: 1. How important is the model, and the processor? I read that Pro Tools does not support AMD processors, so will probably go with Intel. 2. How much difference would a desktop with the same specs make?

@Carolyn Rodea lol. Freezing the tracks converts them to printed wav files that are processed after your plugins. Then the plugins are made inactive saving you CPU processing power. Committing pretty much does the same thing except it creates replacement tracks with no plugins. The old tracks are hidden and made inactive. You can always delete a committed track and unhide and reactivate the original track to work more with it.

@Carolyn Rodea as a side note, if you are not using your system usage window I suggest that you do. It will show your cpu load and you will see it drop when you freeze a track with many plugins.
AI...
AI.... SOooooo.... thought I might throw out a 'controversial' topic.... what do peeps think of using AI generated parts in their music? Are you having success? Inspiration? I know I have been very pleasantly surprised in a variety of ways and would love to hear your experiences. :D

AI can mimic a soul but it does not have one and is not a musician. I’m old but the best music ever created was made in the last century. We still hear those songs everyday. Nothing artificial about it.

@Ari Tiainen it does matter. Music is art. AI is a copy.
What's your business goal?
With the Studio Launch Challenge coming up next week (info here) I thought it would be fun to get an idea of what everyone here is working towards. Answer below!

Where is the option to choose: I just want to see how depressed I can get hearing the same song over and over again.
How about a ProTools users group?
I see that most training video is Logic Pro based. Where are my other ProTools users at? Lets follow each other and give each other help and tips and maybe make some new friends!

@Joel Mofsenson I use a Behringer XTouch with ProTools. Works well. Switching from Logic is going to be a real experience. One is a working console environment, and the other looks like a phone app with pretty pictures of basses and drums so you know what track you are looking at.

Guitar meets Moog
In the Spring of 1978,I bought a Gibson RD Artist. The unique thing about it is at the time a company named Norlin owned both Gibson and Moog so they had Moog do some advanced electronics to include active EQ, compressor, expander and preamp circuitry. We are approaching 50 years together. I liked to experiment with electronics going way back and hacked on this one to add additional phase options and other unnecessary features. Through all the hacking and the natural aging process, the poor thing doesn’t play consistently due to end-of-life of the capacitors. Anyway I dove in today and have compiled a parts list on Digikey and will be restoring the electronics over the next few weeks. Here’s some before photos! Wish me luck!

@William Yung I have a lot of Gibson guitars. My first was bought in 1974, a Gibson Marauder. I gave it to my son, so it's still in the family. I have never had a guitar with so much electronic hardware inside. I mean if it sounds great unplugged, it will sound great plugged in. As we like to say, if it ain't wood, it ain't no good.
