The Six Days of Creation — Genesis 1 in Song
Two new songs from the Creation narrative (Genesis 1), sung in the original Biblical Hebrew. Song 1 covers Days 1-4 — from "In the beginning" through the creation of the sun, moon, and stars. Ambient trance jungle: atmospheric pads, chopped breakbeats, ethereal vocals. Starts at 70 BPM in hushed awe, builds to 165 BPM as the earth emerges, then pulls back to 130 BPM as the cosmos opens up. Song 2 covers Days 5-6 — sea creatures, land animals, and the creation of man. Acid rock p-funk: distorted wah guitar, fat funk bass, Hammond organ, gritty soul vocals. The groove builds from swampy and primal to full-throated ecstatic as creation reaches its climax. This woman lived through Mao's China and has a lot to say about today
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALOVZ9fc84k A survivor of the Cultural Revolution is sounding the alarm and people need to hear this Just finished watching this interview with a woman named Xi Van Fleet, who actually lived through Mao's Cultural Revolution in China as a kid. Here are the things that stuck with me: She makes a really sharp point about the difference between authoritarianism and totalitarianism. Authoritarianism just wants you to obey. Totalitarianism wants to control what you think and believe. And she sees echoes of that same thing happening in the West today. One of the biggest themes she kept coming back to is how deceptive communism is as a system, not just as a government. The CCP deceived the nationalist Chinese TWICE until they finally wiped them out. The communists would say "now is not the time for conflict, we need to unite against the Japanese" and the nationalists, who genuinely wanted to cooperate, agreed. That openness and willingness to work together is literally what destroyed them. Twice. And they deceived America over and over throughout history too. Nixon's visit in 1972 is a perfect example, the CCP was on the verge of collapse and used that moment to get a lifeline out of the US. She's saying this is not accidental, it's THE core tactic. She also describes the CCP not as a legitimate Chinese government but as a foreign occupying force that took over China. When she explained it that way it honestly reframes everything. When she described all of this I started thinking of like 10 modern examples on my own. Highly recommend watching the full thing if you have time 🙏

Fundamental shift: UAE leaves OPEC
I suspect the UAE will be trying to match the US instead of OPEC, because US petrol-industry costs notably more, so the preferred normative price of petrol for the US will generally fetch the UAE more revenue than trying to align with OPEC. This is good news for the US, since it gives them to more ability to buffer the decline of the USD. We might however see the contentions between the Saudis and UAE sharpen further, since their mutual interests that were aligned via OPEC, will no longer prevent them from diverging further. With UAE making moves like this, we should also not be surprised if they add more momentum behind their recognition of Somaliland. Either way, this is no tiny matter, and it's very likely we'll be seeing ripple effects as a direct result of the Emiratis choice to leave OPEC. The above are my from-the-hip takes. UAE leave OPEC
https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/28/uae-opec-oil-iran.html *BREAKING NEWS* The Emirates will leave OPEC as of May 1, 2026. This is HUGE for the region. What it means: Abu Dhabi can now sell as much oil as they'd like at whatever price they negotiate. They can flood the market with reserves and undercut Saudi Arabia, or turn off the spigots and raise prices. In practice it means UAE steps out of KSA's shadow to the benefit of itself, and the big consumers: US, China and India. Lastly, it weakens the overall cartel which could have a domino effect or be the "Brexit" of the GCC.
