Rats & Morphine
From The Miracle Morning Book: Canadian Psychologist Bruce K. Alexander about his rat & morphine study “solitary confinement drives people crazy; if prisoners in solitary have the chance to take mind- numbing drugs, they do”
My take: Of course they do, wouldn’t you? I would and I have in soft-confinement known to me as isolation. I believe that I used frequently in part because I felt alone and isolated despite those I surrounded myself with. The appearance from the outside would look like I was thriving in a happy, robust social community with me at the epicenter as a confident well-connected socialite. The reality was I created a fake, protective, superficial barrier of acquaintance armor to protect my fragile ego and hide my insecurities.
