Think about your book listing the same way you think about posting a YouTube video or an Instagram Reel.
Here's the legit truth ... IF...
- The title doesn’t solve a clear problem or spark curiosity → no one clicks
- The cover doesn’t stand out in a crowded feed → no one clicks
- You don’t drive traffic to it → it quietly sits there
👇 Publishing the book is just the upload. It’s not the strategy.
Amazon Is Algorithm-Driven (Just Like Social Media)
Your listing on Amazon responds to behavior:
- People click the listing
- They spend time on the page
- They read the description
- They add it to the cart
💥 BOOM — those are positive signals.
When you send external traffic (social media, email list, etc.) to your listing and people engage with it, Amazon sees that activity and rewards it with more visibility.
More engagement → more impressions → more clicks.
Why Reviews Matter (Especially at Launch)
Reviews aren’t just social proof.
💥 They increase:
- Click-through rate
- Trust
- Engagement
Which feeds the algorithm again.
This is also why the launch window matters. Early momentum compounds.
The Big Takeaway
Just publishing a book is not enough.
You have to:
- Market it
- Drive traffic
- Generate engagement
- Collect reviews
That’s how books actually sell.
I’m building out my Launch & Scale Playbook, where I break down these strategies and why they matter.
These playbooks are my high-level brain dump of the full self-publishing process that’s helped me earn $100K+ in royalties doing this part-time.
