Twice-a-month we will host a live group coaching call. Although we may start our call with an initial topic to explore, coaching is co-created so topics may shift based on the group's needs. Show up ready and open to engage, explore challenges, and let's grow together.
If you’re new to the group, new to group coaching, or just new to coaching in general, this post is for you!
In this post I will answer:
1. What co-creating actually means in coaching.
2. How group coaching differs from 1:1.
3. Why flexibility helps everyone.
4. What members should bring.
5. How the Weekly prompts guide the direction.
Okay, 1. What co-creation means in terms of coaching.
Coaching is Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Simply put it is a partnership, which means it is co-created. The topics/direction of coaching is agreed upon by the coach and the client(s) in the beginning of each session.
This is Co-creation.
Additionally, the conversation isn’t led by the coach or by the group alone—it's shaped together in real time. The coach provides structure, curiosity, guidance and more... but the group’s needs, struggles and input determines the direction and the depth of exploration.
In short: The coaching process is fluid, and value comes from what we create collectively, not from a script.
2. How group coaching differs from 1:1
Group coaching introduces dynamics that you don’t get in private sessions:
- Multiple perspectives = more insight, more angles
- Many people sharing experiences = “I’m not the only one” moments
- Collective reflections = learning from each other’s questions/answers
- Less personal deep-diving than 1:1, but more diversity of perspectives and solutions
Extra Bonus: You get to practice leadership, vulnerability, and communication skills in real time.
In short: 1:1 is personal depth.
Group coaching is depth through diversity.
3. Why flexibility helps everyone
Flexibility allows the session to reflect what the group genuinely needs most that week—not what was planned weeks ago.
This means:
- The group can go deeper on a topic that matters to them
- A shared theme can emerge organically
- You can pivot if something meaningful comes up
- No one feels forced through a rigid agenda
- The group doesn’t have to bring an agreed-upon topic to each session, the weekly prompt acts as a baseline
In short: Flexibility makes the session alive, relevant, and impactful. While having an understood starting point reduces friction and can help set the tone.
4. What members should bring
To get the most out of group coaching, members should come in with:
- Openness — willingness to be honest and curious (not only curiosity for ones-self but also for others)
- Understanding — Things might not go in the direction you expect or “as planned”
- Reflection — thinking about the weekly prompt beforehand, in case it does go “as planned”
- Willingness to share — participating at a level that feels comfortable. This helps you but also helps others too
- Respect — listening deeply to others, maintaining a safe non-judgmental space for others
- Engagement — the more present you are, the more you gain
In short: The mindset you bring shapes the experience you have.
5. How the weekly prompts guide the direction
The weekly prompt is the “starting anchor” of each session. It is here to provide the building blocks for strong leadership and will cover a large variety of specific and broad agendas.
It:
- Gives everyone a shared point of reflection
- Helps members prepare mentally before the call
- Sets a theme for the initial exploration
- Creates structure so the conversation doesn’t feel aimless
- Provides continuity week to week, even if the discussion shifts
- Builds a wide foundation of leadership skills
Even if you miss a session, you will not fall behind. You can always jump right back in.
In short: The prompt starts the journey — where you end up is shaped by your engagement.
In summary:
You have the power to help shape these sessions. You will gain for yourself and provide others with a greater variety and quality of perspectives, adding to the overall richness of the experience. Your mindset will be your greatest asset. Each week will help you build a strong overall foundation for your leadership skills and personal style. Although continuous engagement is recommended for steady growth, life happens, so don’t be afraid to jump back in when the time arrives.
I look forward to seeing you on the calls
