1st Week
Congratulations everyone on surviving the first week of January. New year brings some new challenges and some old challenges. Do you have any New Years resolutions you're taking on this year? What's been challenging you? What's been going well for you? For me my New Years resolutions are a mix of both old and new. One of my biggest goals has been around taking back my health, losing weight and working out regularly at least one hour throughout the week. What's been going well has been controlling what I'm eating so I'm losing weight, and the challenging part has been actually working out. I recently moved my weights to a more accessible place so I think that will help me🀞stay accountable. My second New Years resolution is fixing up my motorcycles. I own 2 motorcycles, one for riding and the other I'm looking to eventually sell, but they both need love. My goal is to first fix my daily rider (which is the easier of the two) then second fix the one I'm looking to sell (which will be more of a challenge) What's going well for these goals is my daily rider is going to be easy to fix. What's challenging me is a combination of my time management, knowledge of how to fix bike #2 and the weather. Winter is not a great time to be a mechanic outside. What are some of your goals/successes/challenges this year. I wish you all a wonderful new year full of adventure and growth.

The beginning of the New Year brought into focus all the things I've dropped this past year. So, I'm starting small... A sticker of my choice goes onto my calendar every day that I exercise for at least 10 min. Seeing those stickers really makes me want to collect them all, so to speak. Each month the sticker will represent a new habit, next month will be daily time working on jewelry. I'm still brainstorming a way to ensure that I don't drop any habits after each month, the goal is to keep them all going once I've collected all the stickers for that month ad by the end of the year I will have at least 12 more fully ingrained positive habits.
Feedback as Growth Opportunities
When is the last time you received or gave honest feedback to someone? How do you create space for honest feedback, even when it’s uncomfortable to hear? Please share an example. If the second question is difficult to answer, answer this question instead: When do you feel comfortable giving feedback? Core Focus: Helping others to help you help them. Feedback is a primary component in communication for building strong relationships. Giving feedback to a superior can be scary and knowing what helps people feel safe to do so is the key to success.

I feel most comfortable giving feedback when I feel like I won't be attacked for giving it. It can take a lot of courage and vulnerability to give feedback. I sometimes worry that my feedback won't be well received so I frequently tell the recipient that I could be totally off base and to take my words with a grain of salt. That usually allows them to lower their defenses to at least hear me, then they can assess if it's good information for them or if they'd rather forget it.

@Mark Jimenez I love to make jewelry, I have been practicing setting bezels and I recently set this gorgeous larimar, this isn’t the best picture of my silver work but I did a decent job with the setting! πŸ’ͺ

I have a hard time saying the hard things. I tend to do the complement sandwich where I start off with something good, touch on the critical feedback and end with something positive. I find that the important bit in the middle can get lost in translation and then I become frustrated that I’m not seeing the desired change in behavior. I’ve learned to be more direct, stay respectful, clear and on topic. I regularly remind myself that being too careful about not hurting someone’s feelings can be unkind especially if it leads to me withholding information. Looking back, getting my feelings hurt by hearing someone say something hard but true has been major in helping me see myself clearly and make growth.
Hello There!
My name is Justin Peterson. I am currently both a full-time 9-5 employed and in my 5-9 I work as a leadership coach, until the day I can make the leap and pursue coaching full time. For fun, every week my wife and I host a game day at my house where my dad and a few close friends come over, and we play D&D or sometimes other nerdy games like Flux, Munchkin or Poker.

@Mark Jimenez So cool about your campaign character being used for so much good! I would love to figure out a way to support a social cause through my silver smithing. I know that art has always been a way to speak on issues but I’m still figuring out how that will work for me. What does your non profit do?
