Heartbroken
So this week at school, my 10 year old son Elliot was just minding his own business doing keepy uppys when another boy in the playground decided to slide tackled him, the outcome of that tackle a double fracture which requires surgery, and plates / screws fitting to help him heal right I am absolutely heartbroken for him as football is his life, he loves being a goalkeeper and playing football Im going to assume a long road to recovery for him due to the severity of the break I want to try and cheer him up a bit as he is very scared nervous, but I dont know hows the best way to approach it Thanks Jamie

Almost end of season for me
Last Sunday we were back to 11-a-side again and, despite starting with a lead and putting in another really strong performance myself — without trying to sound egocentric — we ended up losing 1-2 against the “boogeyman” of the group and league runners-up. With only 1 point so far - 1 draw and 2 losses -, we need to win next week to go through to the next stage, and unfortunately I won’t be there because I have to take my son to a tournament. In theory that shouldn’t mean anything — one of my teammates will go in goal and I’m sure he’ll do a great job — but considering we’ve only had 11 or 12 players available in the 3 cup matches we’ve played, with this heat and against younger, very competitive teams, the physical difference really starts to show. Honestly, if we had known beforehand that we’d suffer so many absences between injuries and personal commitments, we probably shouldn’t have entered the competition in the first place. So, unless there’s a surprise ending, my season probably finished last weekend. A few conclusions from this year: - It’s been years since I managed a full season without muscular injuries. The last few seasons I genuinely thought injuries were going to force me to retire. - To achieve that, proper nutrition and strength training have been absolutely key. - I’ve felt really comfortable all season long and, at 44 years old, this has honestly been one of the seasons I’ve enjoyed the most. I’ve put in some very good performances and definitely haven’t gone unnoticed. Maybe the body is getting older, but the passion for being a goalkeeper is still exactly the same.
