December 22/ 23 - movement accountability
Last night I taught a restorative yoga class before the holiday craziness. Glad I did bc we did Christmas morning today and that always brings up a bunch of emotional nonsense. It was such a good class, slow and breath oriented, just making space in our bodies for the next week where we won’t have much space for ourselves. Kiddos went to dads after gifts this afternoon and I had a whole lot of negative energy to shake off. The gym is such a tool for my emotions. Instead of punching someone I go and make myself sweat - or spend 50 minutes in child’s pose.. or both. Today was a little bit of everything, and I will post a video of a wall sit variation and some single Leg standing drills - yes I do these so often bc of my hypermobility and pain / instability and you should too! Also hit some light deadlifts (40lb), medium deadlifts(70lb) and some free standing wall Balls

I posted yesterday but it must have poofed into the abyss. but @Eva Bennett saw me at the gym so she will vouch. I also came home and let the sun hit my face, and just breathed for a few - winter is always tough for those of us who get seasonal depression - but the last 3 years have been better since allowing my life to align with seasons. If it’s gonna be dark at 5pm then I’m gonna be hibernating too 😂 letting the sun hit my face first thing helps the circadian rhythm, and after it gets dark, our lights are all red, orange and mostly lamps. This also allows you to ease into rest. Today I forgot a pic again so bathroom selfie it is, but here’s the moves I’ve been hitting, over and over. Cat cow Child’s pose Diaphragmatic breath Thread the needle Scapular retraction upright and in plank position Static holds of 8lb weights - t arms, goal post, overhead press Leg machines - 75% of my max for 3 sets of 10 Walking uphill or on stairclimber for 10-20 mins at moderate pace

POST YOUR SELFIE IN THE THREAD! Wednesday mornings I take the girls to school then I teach at the Strength Warehouse on my way home (trapped myself into going to the gym, at the very least once a week this way!) Sometimes no one shows up - so I got to do my own thing today. Warmed up with 10 mins uphill walking at a pretty slow pace just getting the heart pumping a little and blood flowing. Then hit the leg machines - with my hip being so super slow to gain back strength and motor control after my surgery in 2020 - I am STILL relying on machines to safely get it back. I use about 80% of my max and work out control and pulses. Mostly working from a nervous system perspective. It’s not about heavy weight for me, yet. Extension to get calves firing Flexion to get hamstrings warm Abductor for tfl, glute med and min Adduction for pectineus, gracilis, adductors Then I move on to shoulder movements to make sure I’m ready for work as an LMT. Focusing on placement and mobility without pain. Snow angels, rolling pec and traps with a massage ball, planks, scapular retraction. Then on with my day 🫶🏻✨💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
