There's a popular copywriting Facebook group where the group owner drops advanced copywriting and marketing insights. To be able to understand his insights, you need a certain level of experience. To be able to implement his insights successfully, you need even more experience. Most of the group members are inexperienced novices. They can't understand or implement the guru's insights. I'm not saying this to put them down. It's a fact. Once they have more experience, they will have the capacity to understand and implement the guru's teachings.
And yet, you find them hanging on his every word, tagging him to ask novice questions, engaging in cringe hero-worship, and so on. This is a waste of his time and theirs. Because he is too far ahead of them. He learned how to write copy in the 80s. He made his first million in the 90s. He cannot relate to a copywriter just getting started in 2025. He'll never have to send cold outreach. He'll never have to compete for a copywriting gig against hundreds of other candidates. He'll never have to negotiate his rates. He'll never work for a client who doesn't value his expertise. He has nothing in common with a novice copywriter.
But If you're a novice, that doesn't mean you can never learn from him. It just means you need a little more experience under your belt to be able to fully benefit from his wisdom. If you've ever found yourself reading this guru's posts (or any high level guru's posts) and scratching your head, you'll know exactly what I mean. You're not ready yet. You will be. But not for a little while. A lot of copywriters make this mistake. They try solve problems in the wrong order.
So, who should you learn from instead? Long time Copyskills member Keith Howard wrote an excellent email about this. I'll quote him. It'll save me some time.
> I like to think of this as “The Operator's Curse”. The better you get, the less tolerance you have for incompetence. If you wanted to, you could call it empathy shrinkage. A common condition where we all forget what it was like going through our own "hot mess" stage.
> This is why the best teacher for a 3rd grader is a 4th grader. 4th graders can remember the struggle. It's still fresh.
> “Cool… I guess. How do you use this to decrease churn in my paid community?” – You, maybe.
> That's a breeze, big dawg. You make the 4th grader a Deputy… or a Capo… or an OG. Then, you tell the 3rd graders, "Hey, this is your guy/gal… Tag them if you get stuck."
> This is one way you can optimize #wins in an online asynchronous environment (without spending more time at your keyboard or answering the same question you've heard 18 million times)…
> There's also a positive ripple effect socially. 3rd graders are less intimidated by the 4th grader, which makes it easier for them to ask for help or post their work without anxiety. More posting means more likely to make friends. Once they make friends, the community becomes "sticky".

We have a bunch of people in Copyskills who might fit that role. One of them is our Community Manager Judy, who's hosting the upcoming 3-day Client Magnet Challenge.
