I always get a lot of questions on how to build an AI estimator.

Do I think you should be using AI to blindly price $10 million jobs? No

Is AI useful in the estimating process? Yes

In this video I wanted to outline an approach to how you could actually prepare an entire construction estimate using AI, from taking the original client requirements, performing a quantity takeoff, to then compiling a finished cost

The important point I want to stress from the video is that as much as it is about the tools and the process, it is actually more about the underlying data

How relevant are the rates and the background information you have that you can pass to Claude?

At the end of the day the actual act of estimating is applying rates to quantities. It's not complicated but if your rates are wrong and your quantities are wrong, your estimate will be wrong.
