Right. I’m gonna say something that might make a few people do that tiny internal GULP. I say it with love, OBVS. Not judgement. Just observation. Because I’ve seen this happen on shed loads a’ calls at this point and it’s basically a shared online disease.
People aren’t boring. They’re playing SAFE.
And safe content? That’s the fastest way to become INVISIBLE-ISH. It’s giving “put your hand up in school, get ignored once, never risk it again” energy. I did that for years. Which is probably why now I’m like absolutely not blending in ever again, thank you kindly.
Here’s what I see peeps doing. All the time.
Open Insta...
See some guru saying “use this prompt.”
Copy the vibe.
Tidy the words so they sound clever.
Delete the swear because what if Auntie Susan reads it and does that tight-lipped disappointed face. Soften the opinion because what if someone disagrees and there’s a tiny bit of discomfort.
Then press post.
Then sit there thinking… why does this feel MEH?
Because it’s not them. HELLO.
It’s the diluted version. The socially acceptable version. The slightly constipated version. The one that says “I’m just sharing” while internally having a paddy and refreshing notifications like that’s a full-time job…
Humans don’t connect with diluted. They connect with SPECIFIC.
They connect with the moment someone nearly vomitted before launching. They connect with the Tuesday meltdown. They connect with “cannot be arsed but showed up anyway” honesty.
Instead, there’s a whole lot of vanilla wallpaper inspiration floating about that even my dog would roll her eyes at.
EEK. What are we doing. WHO EVEN ARE WE.
So yeah. I’m done with it. Proper done.
