You Don't Have to Believe Every Thought Your Brain Produces
One of the most common things I hear in therapy is:
"But what if...?"
What if something goes wrong?
What if they leave?
What if I'm making the wrong decision?
What if I missed something?
Trauma can teach our brains that constantly scanning for danger will keep us safe.
The problem is, our brain starts treating possibilities as probabilities.
The next time you notice yourself spiralling into a "what if" cycle, simply pause and say:
"Here I am again, trying to predict the future. Thank you, brain, for trying to protect me—but I don't need to solve this right now."
You don't have to answer every "what if."
Sometimes, the kindest thing you can do is gently step out of the cycle and return to the present moment.
