I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Versace Eros is a top 3 designer line. I have never been disappointed by a Versace fragrance. In fact, Flame and Energy are FBWs for me. Now back to the review.
It opens up fresh, sweet, green, and marine. A lovely grapefruit note in the opening. Green and slightly earthy from fig leaf. The opening also has bergamot and water notes. Luckily, the water notes didn’t give the egg shell effect on my skin. The ambroxan kicks in after a minute along with a touch of spice from pepper and more greens and florals. The listed notes are violet leaf, papyrus, and patchouli. The violet leaf is the most prominent one for me. The more it dries down, the more saffron and incense come out, adding more personality. The musk and tonka mentioned are soft and do their part in the background. Surprisingly, the notes can be picked up individually but it’s also blended nicely.
This one’s soapy, shower gel-like with a lot going on but not overdone. It’s fresh, it’s sweet, it’s spicy, it’s warm, it’s green. A really well-made scent. The opening is kind of like Eau Fraiche and the drydown reminds me of Eros Flame. The ambroxan is the one thing that’s similar to Sauvage and maybe that’s why people call it a Sauvage replacement. To me this is 10x better than Sauvage. Sauvage is primarily metallic. This one’s soapy.
Performance is good. 6 to 8 hours. First 2 hours project 1 to 1.5 feet. After 2 hours it drops under a foot. After the 6-hour mark, it sits a bit closer to the skin. People often forget that this is an EDT.
Overall, I love this fragrance. Something different from YSL Y and versatile. Suitable for younger guys, maybe 27 or under. Great for office use too. The price is also super reasonable. I can pick up a 100 ml for £60.
All that being said, I’d give it an 8.85/10. I would have preferred better performance and less of that ambroxan. Also, the profile is similar to some other fragrances but done better. I usually don’t like ambroxan as it may be headache-inducing and smell synthetic. But for the price, it’s a steal. I’m inclined to get a full bottle but I’d give it a few more wears before that.
