Synthetic. What does it mean?!?!?
Gentlemen and Lady, I’m embarrassed to bring this up, especially since I’ve been in this hobby now for about six months, but I am completely lost when anyone uses the term “synthetic” describing fragrances. Especially from reviewers on YouTube and when it is brought up sometimes in here. From my understanding, I thought that synthetic had to deal with the smell. Something like artificial, chemical, cheap, along the lines of an unnatural scent, plastic like, shoeshine, wood polish. But then I’ve seen some people use it in terms of poor execution and low quality formulation. I’ve also seen it to mean it is the opposite of “natural” ingredients. Like using real rose extract vs synthetic rose made in a lab (enter any ingredient here actually). I understand the use of synthetic ingredients here for ethical and lack of resources reasoning. I’ve seen it use to describe overuse or poor blending like too much ISO E super to make it smell like a barber shop. Too much alcohol blast in the opening. Skin chemistry mismatch. Cheap vs bad use. Or overall just lacking depth. If you all could clarify it for me it would be much appreciated. Thank you. 🙏
