This was a recent one from my Decant subscription. I've been actively trying to dip my toes more into some niche and came across this rather good looking oriental Gourmand from niche house State of Mind. Created by perfumer Karine Dubreuil-Sereni, it is highly regarded as one of their most popular and comforting scents. The entire house is built around the concept of fusing fine perfumery with the ritual and philosophy of tea. This fragrance is a dense, creamy, and resinous gourmand with a unique tea backbone. The overall impression is one of warmth and a comforting sweetness.
It opens up with a hint of aromatic, slightly dry tea, quickly paired with a milky, sweet, and green fig and the powdery-vanillic sweetness of tonka. At its heart resides a rich, warm resinous core. Peru Balsam and Benzoin add a sweet, balsamic, and slightly vanilla-like depth. Coumarin amplifies the tonka and gives a fresh, hay-like quality. The base is a creamy, long-lasting foundation. The caramel provides a realistic gourmand sweetness, the sandalwood adds a luxurious, creamy woodiness, and the cherry is often described as a dark, balsamic, or cherry-tobacco rather than a bright, artificial candy note.
Lasts pretty well too, I get about 7 hours on skin, it projection is strong initially, settling down to a beautiful, warm scent bubble that is noticeable but not overwhelming. The warmth, resins, and gourmand notes are perfect for cold weather. It manages to be sweet and cozy (gourmand) without smelling juvenile or cheap. The tea and resins give it a high-quality, adult sophistication.
