SOTD: Oud by Aaron Terence Hughes

Good morning to the Fragrance Family. We are right back to that cold, gloomy Chicago weather, gray skies and that familiar chill in the air. But errands still need to be run and responsibilities still call. So if we have to be out in it, we might as well smell absolutely awesome while doing it.

My latest acquisition and scent of the day is Oud by Aaron Terence Hughes. This is my first wear and first true impression, and I went in with an open mind. The opening greets me with a slightly sweet and floral touch from rose and dates, giving it a smooth and inviting introduction. It does not take long before the fragrance begins to shift into something deeper. The resinous woods start to rise and then that earthy, slightly funky oud character makes its presence known. It has that beautiful, grounded grit that I personally love in an oud composition.

What excites me most is the progression. This feels like a fragrance that is going to unfold in layers throughout the day, and I am here for the journey. Initial projection is outstanding and the sillage is fantastic. It is making a confident statement without feeling reckless.

So far I am giving it an 8.5, with plenty of room for improvement or failure as the day develops. Either way, I am enjoying the experience. Make it a productive day, stay warm, and as always… smell great doing it.
