SOTD La Capitale by Xerjoff
La Capitale by Xerjoff is a floral, fruity oud with predominantly sweet notes including amber and vanilla. There is some leather which is very soft as well as ginger, labdanum and benzoin. It is incredibly smooth and well blended and unisex. However, this is something to be tested before committing to a purchase albeit a thoroughly beautiful fragrance.
It opens up with a sweet fruity accord of peach and strawberry (the dominant fruit note) with the labdanum sitting in the background. Though not linear, the transition of the scent to the mid notes starts quickly with the rose, saffron and amber creeping in. The leather is soft, not at all animal like, just smoothing out the sweet notes as the oud interjects itself.
The vanilla and benzoin base notes follow the oud in an amazingly smooth transition. The blend is not super complex but it is recognizable among other floral forward oud fragrances. For me this is one of the best uses of oud because while being subtle it is still ever present and the fragrance is still undeniably oud based. I prefer this to Alexandria II because IMO it is an incredibly well balanced blend of oud, floral, fruity and vanilla notes. The ginger doesn't really add spiciness rather just added texture.
The only drawback is that the fragrance is a bit sweet and some may consider it somewhat feminine leaning (Parfumo.com has user ownership of 45% female and 54% male). For that reason I probably wouldn't wear this to work or in professional settings. But around family and friends who enjoy perfumery this would be a great scent. The sillage and longevity are above average IMO.
