SOTD: Imaginary Authors - Every Storm A Serenade

It’s a 73 degree overcast day here in Arizona so I’m continuing with my samples from the niche indy house Imaginary Authors. Every Storm A Serenade is a fragrance that captures the raw, untamed essence of a coastal tempest with remarkable artistry. Its opening bursts with a bracing blend of Spruce/Douglas fir, eucalyptus, and marine notes, evoking the scent of salt-sprayed cliffs and wind-whipped evergreens. As it settles, the heart reveals a subtle iris and vetiver, grounding the composition with an earthy elegance, while a touch of ambergris in the base adds a lingering, oceanic warmth. The fragrance feels like standing on the rugged shores near Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Oregon, one of my favorite places, where the air carries the crisp tang of the Pacific and the distant rumble of waves crashing against basalt cliffs. It’s a scent that transports me to those moments of solitude, watching storm clouds gather over the horizon, with the lighthouse standing resolute against the elements.

The saltiness in Every Storm A Serenade is particularly striking, sharing a kinship with BDK Sel d’Argent, another fragrance in my collection. Both capture the briny, almost tactile quality of sea air, but while Sel d’Argent leans into a sunnier, Mediterranean coast with its creamy, musky warmth, Every Storm A Serenade is moodier, more introspective, and distinctly Pacific Northwest. The marine accord here feels sharper, more windswept, mirroring the rugged beauty of Oregon’s coastline compared to the softer, beachy vibe of Sel d’Argent.
