JPG Le Male Elixir Absolu (1/3)
Hello gents. The weather is getting cooler which means I have limited time to test summer frags. But today, for a change, I thought I’d wear something heavier and it was between Invictus Victory and this. Ultimately, I went with this.
JPG LM Elixir is a bit special to me because it was the first fragrance sample I tried after joining the community. This post will be a review plus a comparison between the two elixirs. Let me start off with the review.
ELIXIR ABSOLU
The opening is really nice. Plum and bergamot were the most prominent for me. I got hints of the spices but they only lasted about 15 minutes. The plum stuck around and carried into the heart, where a smooth lavender came through. It felt a touch green, and I definitely caught a hidden note of soft iris. Then the base unfolded swiftly with the classic JPG benzoin and tonka sweetness. There’s a bit more complexity in the drydown too. If you dig your nose in, you’ll notice a smoky, slightly bitter incense nuance. I believe this comes from the artemisia and davana listed. The florals are overpowered by the sweet notes but you can catch whiffs of clean florals here and there.
Overall, it’s a warm, cozy, sweet scent that can be worn by anyone. Great for casual fall and winter days or nights. It has a bit of everything: fruity, fresh, floral, ambery, and herbal. The performance is solid too. Six hours in, I can still smell it and I only did two sprays on skin. Projection and sillage are average. I’d give this an 8.7/10.
COMPARISON
The elixir feels like the base that Absolu was built on. The key differences are these: Elixir has mint, honey, vanilla, and tobacco. Absolu leans on plum, lavender, tonka, benzoin, and bitter greens. I’d give the points to Elixir for the scent profile.
Elixir has better projection, sillage, and longevity. I remember waking up and still smelling it on my skin.
Elixir is more powdery, sweeter, and less complex. Absolu works better for people who can’t stand the sweetness of Elixir or who want a bit more complexity.
Which one would be my pick? I’m sticking with Elixir. I feel Elixir was perfect the way it is and it projects better. Absolu lives up to its name in terms of complexity but not performance. Maybe a JPG cash grab, but still a really good fragrance. I’ll give it a few more wears to see if anything changes, and if you own elixir, you need not get the absolu.
What’s your pick and why?
