Whazzup Frag Fam!!! So next to the last of these decanters: ScentsAngel. ScentsAngel is also a decanter I’ve order a few times from, and only in the short time I’ve been in fragrances, I’ve watched their website get significantly upgraded! ScentsAngel has also gone through a rebranding, complete with new bottles, new bottle design and new logo. It’s still ongoing as the website showcases the old bottles versus the new ones that you’ll see here in a bit. The new website is sleek, simple and easy to use. ScentsAngel has in the range of 2000 different fragrances to choose from. They have the most common fragrances across designers as well as a good number of niche and indie. Fragrances can be grouped by gender, brands and best-sellers. They can also parse out fragrances based on four general scent groups. Available sizes are limited to 5ml and 10ml.
As of this review, prices for a 5ml of some common frags are: Naxos (17.00), Layton (19.00), Angel’s Share (39.99) BR540-EDP (29.00), Aventus (20.00) and Cedrat Boise (15.00). The sample I purchased for these reviews is Cedrat Boise - 5ml.
Pricing of representative sample frags as well as the average pricing across the samples was somewhat lower than the average for the whole group. There really isn’t any perks at ScentsAngel to speak of, however, with their rapidly evolving storefront, who knows what they might have in the future. Discount codes for ScentsAngel for up to 25 percent off are easy to come by on the internet. Shipping options are plentiful with six options across USPS and UPS! ScentsAngel also works with SHOP, a free app that helps you securely sign in, helps track your packages, and rewards you in SHOP Cash for purchases made using the SHOP app. At least this is helpful in the “perk” arena.
After discounts and standard shipping, the total cost at ScentsAngel ran me 11.25 USD which was below my average cost of 14.63 amongst the five decanters, ranking the best price overall. I ordered on Monday and received my package on Friday, same week (NY to FL). Shipping packaging was above and beyond; they packaged a single vial into a box, wrapped it in protective tissue, and put that inside a shipping box! The decant is in a specialty branded, square 5ml glass vial with a branded cap. A basic printed label was on the decant box, and being separate from the bottle itself, Don’t Lose the Box! Or, you could just move the sticker (like I do with MaxAroma orders, more about that below). The standard shipping was also through USPS Ground Advantage which is now insured up to $100.
ScentsAngel is a very interesting decanter. Although it has a snazzy new website and it packages and ships real well, there is a strong, if a bit mysterious, link between it and MaxAroma! ScentsAngel says it’s out of Houston, Texas, but my decant came from New York. Ordering through ScentsAngel, my credit card transaction says MaxAroma. The shipping address for the package from ScentsAngel, is in fact MaxAroma's address. ScentsAngel's packing method, packing slip and packing material even, matches those used by MaxAroma. I've ordered so much from both of them that I don't think it's a fluke or a one-time "helping out" kind of thing. I’ve reached out to both of them, but didn’t get any noteworthy response. There’s a strong link between the two, but without more evidence, I can’t really speak to the nature of it…
Shipping time was excellent, as it made great time from New York. Decant packaging was the best among the group, as it was the only one that came in a shipping box for added protection. Communication was a bit lacking, only an email confirming the order and one saying it was shipped. Joe Average take: ScentsAngel has a nice variety of selections but only a couple of sizes to choose from. Prices are on the lower side, and although ScentsAngel scored higher than the rest of the group, I’m still a little cautious to use them… SCORE 8/10
