“Walking is the most ancient exercise and still the best modern exercise.” —Carrie Latet
There’s no denying that there are many wonderful ways in which we can move our bodies. The possibilities are endless; however, I want to point out one thing today. Before there were fitness gyms—before there were weight machines and ellipticals—before there were dumbbells, workouts on demand, sports, or anything else, there was one thing—walking.
As the quote says, “Walking is the most ancient form of exercise.”
And this is exactly why we’re focusing on our steps this month! 👟
We are all aware that walking is a great exercise, but I can almost bet you haven’t considered that it's actually the most ancient form of exercise or movement. That has to stand for something. We are meant to move in this way, and the best part is that for most, it’s a completely natural form of movement.
While it's no secret that walking is a great (and simple) form of exercise, its benefits actually extend beyond weight control. If you have time for a little extra learning today, check out the website below for more benefits of walking and getting in your steps! ⬇️

🚶‍♀️ BE WELL STEP CHALLENGE! 🚶‍♀️
Okay, y’all! We’re starting a step challenge, but I want you to understand something before we begin:
This is NOT about everybody hitting 10,000 steps a day.
We all have different starting points, different schedules, and different bodies. The goal of this challenge is to get you moving MORE than you are right now and start building a habit that you can actually maintain.
Here’s how we’re doing it:
For the first 2–3 days, pay attention to how many steps you normally get in a day. That’s your baseline.
Then we’re going to start increasing from there! A good goal is to add about 1,500–2,000 steps to your normal daily average.
For example:
If you normally get under 3,000 → aim for 4,000–5,000
If you normally get 3,000–5,000 → aim for 6,000–7,000
If you normally get 5,000–7,000 → aim for 7,500–9,000
If you’re already getting 7,000–9,000 → let’s work toward 9,000–10,000+
I want you to be intentional about walking at least 5 days a week. You can absolutely move all 7 days, but we’re shooting for five intentional days.
And remember — you do NOT have to get all of your walking in at once! Your phone will track steps under the HEALTH app (everyone has it, if you have an Iphone). And if you don’t have a way of tracking (like an apple watch or phone), simply do this:
Try 10 minutes after breakfast.
10 minutes after lunch.
10 minutes after dinner.
And build from there each week.
Walk while you’re on the phone. Park farther away. Take the stairs. Walk while your kids are at practice. Get outside after dinner instead of immediately sitting on the couch.
And BONUS POINTS if you can get a little walk in after your meals! 🙌
Most importantly, this challenge is not about who can get the MOST steps.
I don't care if someone gets 20,000 steps while you get 5,000.
If you were averaging 3,000 and now you're consistently getting 5,000–6,000, THAT IS A WIN. 👏
We're competing with ourselves.
The goal isn't perfection.
The goal isn't a magical number.
The goal is to become someone who moves their body every single day. ❤️
Let’s get walking! 👟
