The Ability to Pivot
This Saturday we’re going to talk about the ability to pivot. Because life does not always give you a clean warning before it changes direction on you. Sometimes things get thrown at you that you did not see coming. Sometimes you’re pissed off, frustrated, disappointed, and trying to make sense of what the hell just happened. That’s where the real work starts. Not pretending you’re fine. Not burying it. Not letting the anger drive the truck. But taking a breath, getting your feet back under you, and figuring out what the next right move is. Pivoting is a skill. Refocusing is a skill. Being able to put the bullshit aside and keep moving forward is a skill. Chris Chuckry will also be leading us through a bit of a breath work practice on this call. For anyone who has been curious about breath work, this will give you a real look at how useful it can be when your nervous system is fired up and your head is full. I believe Chris is also open to working with people one-on-one with breath work, so if that’s something you’re interested in, reach out to him directly. My friend Yohance Boulden will also be joining us on the call to share some wisdom and perspective around this topic. Show up Saturday morning. Bring whatever you’re carrying. We’ll work through it together.
I Wish I Had Paid More Attention
I’m in a chat group with eight electrical contractor business owners. We’ve been talking for five or six years. CRM software. Pricing. Systems. The usual. A few months ago I started bringing something different to the table. I started asking them about their people. Not how to get more out of them. Just, are you actually watching them? Noticing when something’s off. When the energy shifts. When a guy who’s always loud goes quiet. Almost every single one of them said the same thing. I wish I had paid more attention. I wish I had actually listened. I wish I had taken it seriously. Most of us think we’re present. We’re in the room. We’re watching. But there’s a difference between watching and actually seeing. Between hearing words and actually listening. And we’re so wired to jump in and fix things that we blow right past what’s actually going on. I’ve done it with my guys at work. Done it with Kim. She comes home with something on her mind and I’m already solving it before she gets through the door. That’s not presence. That’s just impatience dressed up as helpfulness. Done it with Maddie too. Watching her struggle through something new and having to sit on my hands because she doesn’t need me to solve it. She needs to feel it and get through it herself. That’s the hardest thing. Removing the need to fix. And just being present enough to actually notice what’s in front of you. So the question this week is simple. Who are you watching right now that you’re not actually seeing?
June Challenge: 10 Minutes. Every Day.
I'm going to challenge every man in this community to do something ridiculously simple this month. Walk for 10 minutes every single day. Not when it's convenient. Not when the weather is perfect. Not when you're feeling motivated. Every day. And before anyone tells me they're too busy, I'm going to push back a little. If we can't find 10 minutes in a 24-hour day, we probably need to take a hard look at where our time is actually going. Most of us spend more than 10 minutes scrolling social media without even realizing it. Here's the other part of the challenge. No earbuds. No music. No podcasts. No distractions. Just you and your thoughts. Or you and your wife. You and your kids. You and the dog. Whatever it looks like, the goal is to actually be present instead of constantly consuming something. Most of us wake up and immediately start filling our heads with noise. Work. Emails. Instagram. YouTube. Podcasts. News. By the end of the day we wonder why our minds feel cluttered and exhausted. Walking without distractions creates space. Space to think. Space to breathe. Space to notice what's actually going on in your life. There are obvious physical benefits too. Better cardiovascular health, improved recovery, lower stress levels, better sleep, more daily movement. But honestly, that's not the main reason I'm posting this. The real benefit is keeping a promise to yourself. My personal goal is going to be 5 km every day this month. That's my commitment. Your commitment is a minimum of 10 minutes. Every. Single. Day. What I love about doing this as a community is that it becomes bigger than any one person. There's something powerful about knowing there are other men in here doing the exact same thing. Not because it's exciting. Not because it's life-changing. Simply because they said they would. That's how trust gets built. That's how momentum gets built. One small promise. Kept consistently. If you're in, drop a comment below with either "10 Minutes" or "5K" and let's see how many men we can get moving this month.
When Life Feels Heavy
Every man has those days where everything feels heavier than it should. You’re not broken for feeling that way. It’s part of the process. What’s one thing that helps you get your head above water when life feels like too much?
