Back pain is real — and it can be incredibly limiting.
I’ve been dealing with on-and-off lower back pain since Thanksgiving. It was a perfect storm:
• Overworking out
• Too much sitting
• More inflammatory foods
• 7 full days of driving (4,000+ miles)
• Not-so-great beds
• Skipping stretching and mobility
Eventually, my body let me know it was angry and needed support.
What is Lumbago?
Lumbago is simply a term for lower back pain and can be found in the homeopathy materia medicas when doing a search. This issue often stiffness, aching, or sharp discomfort that can worsen with movement, sitting too long, or overuse.
Top homeopathic remedies commonly used for back pain:
• Rhus tox – stiffness, worse on first movement, better with gentle motion
• Hypericum – nerve-related pain, shooting or radiating discomfort
• Arnica – trauma, overuse, soreness
• Bryonia – worse with movement, better with rest
• Ruta – strain to ligaments, tendons, or connective tissue• Nux vomica – back pain tied to stress, overdoing, travel, or rich foods
• Kali carbonicum – deep lower back weakness or sharp pain, especially with fatigue
I tried several of these to see what my body responded to — sometimes it takes a bit of listening and experimenting. Homeopathy, anti-inflammatory supplements, and a topical analgesic heat rub cream are some of what I have been trying along with sitting with better posture, stretching, and gentle exercise.
One takeaway is being prepared matters.I packed a small bag of homeopathy and reference books for our trip, and I am so thankful I did. When you’re traveling, tired or out of routine, having support on hand can make all the difference.
