And this one had to be built differently. Because we are not interested in throwing a prize into the room and asking people to chase luck for our first challenge. So we built a different kind of door. 🚪 A Buffer Bureau Field Test. 🚪 A way for someone to open a Case File on one real pressure point in their life and show what breathing room would actually make possible. Not the saddest story. Not even the most polished performance. Just a clear, practical look at what is pressing and what the next move could be if the pressure eased enough to think. The $1,888 Breathing Room Award will be determined by review, not chance. ✅ The Case File gets read. ✅ The work gets scored. ✅ The rubric decides. Because the award is not a ticket. It is not a random drawing. It is not a game of “hope the algorithm smiles.” It is a civic challenge built around clarity, practicality, resourcefulness, and the ability to show how relief today can become a buffer tomorrow. And then there is the other door. Because we already know some people are going to look at the Case File and say, “Nope, I am not doing all that writing. Here is my money. Go do what y’all do.” We made room for them too. Mission supporters will be able to contribute without submitting a Case File. They are not being considered for the award. So one Case File receives the award, but the work does not stop with one person. That is the point because the dollar has work to do. It helps fund the award, the review process, the community resources, the labor, the tools, and even the next layer of Buffer Bureau work.
