I said no to my brother
My family, excluding my wife and kids, usually contact because they need something. Today my brother called as he needed to borrow $50 and repay on Friday. Normally, I would take it out of savings and send to him, and I’d redeposit.
I was an enabler. He and his girlfriend would have money if cigarettes and alcohol weren’t their vices. Expensive ones.
But I said no, and for a brief moment I felt empowered. I said to contact our father. I made the transaction via Zelle but it was my dad’s money. I felt like it was a small win. I’d tell him the money isn’t for cigarettes or booze. Indirectly it still was. I just replaced what he spent on it. Ok this could have been shorter but I typed as I was thinking.
