Calling all disc wheel experts...
I'm looking into a disc wheel for Cairns and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on types, brands, what to avoid, weights, freehubs, bearings etc etc etc... A couple options I'm looking at below: https://paragon.bike/collections/triathlon/products/fulmine-p3-evo-tt-wheel-combo https://www.no6.racing/products/pulsar-disc?srsltid=AfmBOooYL9JP6kR2zWzaeaik4asRDBtL1UVk3iF1NsRXWzNCDet5V-pc https://dsgproshop.com.au/products/hed-jet-disc-wheels

Hey David, a key thing to look at with discs is the external rim width. A lot of the current models offered by the big brands haven’t updated their rim profiles in a long time and are very narrow. (Most were designed 5+ years ago for old school 23/25mm tyres) The aim of the game is to get a nice smooth transition from rim surface to tyre sidewall. For example, The HED Jet you sent through is only a ~25mm wide rim, so if you mount a nice new 28mm tyre on it the side walls are going to bulge out. This will have quite a significant drag penalty. You’d really be forced into running < 25mm tyres to get the best out of the wheel. On the other hand, the No6 pulsar you sent through is 30mm wide at its widest point. A 28 or 30mm tyre on this thing will work sweet aerodynamically and be very comfy. Another cost effective option is the Farsports UFO disc that has just been updated for 2026. Hope this helps mate

Would love to hear your thoughts on high torque/cadence workouts on the bike Greggo. I See a few elite blokes riding around here at ~60RPM. Is this a strength thing?
Does anyone use compression recovery boots?
I’ve been looking into getting a pair but not sure if they have a real recovery effect or it‘s just marketing bogus👀

I’ve got a set of Normatecs at home and use them fairly often. I hardly use the leg attachment as I find it just ‘feels nice’. However… the hip attachment does absolute wonders for my lower back, glutes, adductors and high hamstrings. Note I’m a desk worker - so I’m locked in an eternal struggle with tight hips. To be honest I would say investing in a good massage gun and a firm foam roller is better bang for buck if you’re pulling up sore.

Hey Greg can we get a really good swimmer on as a guest at some point? Perhaps to do a bit of a ‘Swimming 101 Masterclass’. Would be really interested to hear things about Technique, strategy, pacing, what to focus on correcting/improving first etc.
